I bet you its not.Thats a stupid generalization to make don't you think? I know plenty of dds that are impecable. Its all how you treat it/maintain it.

Just for fun, I'm going to make another generalization. I'll bet your definition of "impeccable" is nowhere near what mine is. LOL

Srsly. I guess I'm not hardcore because I park my nice car in the garage over the winter? ROFL I have two GVR4's, a Toyota pickup I use for wheeling...and a damn company van that I use everyday to commute to jobsites and for general work use during the week. I can only drive the car so much anyway.

It's a good thing I don't get my panties in a twist because others generalize about my situation and why the car doesn't get that many miles. ;)

Simply put: Water = Rust. Salt = Corrosion. Driving your car seasonally = Lower miles :thumb: Dumb people driving = Accidents (More so in winter). Cold weather = Increases the chance of door handle breakage :notgood: Not to mention the risk of going down the highway and a chunk of ice flying off the car in front of you and scratching paint. So many reasons to get a beater. And that chill pill video was hilarious btw ROFL

Water, or oxygen is what rusts or corrodes the car. Salt is a catalyst (kinda like how a turbo helps our cars move fast!) in the the chemical reaction and makes rusting or corrosion happen MUCH quicker.

...I learned that in chemistry!!

Very nice mindset.....I would've gone into detail, but wanted to keep it simple. But to put into more detail:

Salt is hydroscopic. This means that salt attracts water. Since water is needed for corrosion (along with oxygen), salt helps gather that water.

So, basically it's bad! And DSM's are good. Why mix the 2?

...with that said it's a good idea to wash your DSM frequently during those snowy winters :thumb:

oh, and don't forget your undercarriage ;)

305 posts and no pictures? not even so much as an avatar? What are you hiding empie1 ;)

Lol...a few people know me on here and know I dont half ass a thing.I guess I just am not really into the whole picture process.I have a couple pics of the car on my computer from when I first got it a few years ago, but unfortunately I havent really documented my work.
Someday Ill snap a couple, but honestly, I really dont have anything to prove ya know?
Turbowop, Im extremely anal about cars stuff I strive for perfection and pretty much everything I own is impeccable...meaning perfect. But my point is, obviously you reduce chances for damage/wear by not driving a car...winter or not, low miles = clean. My point was, if someone takes care of their stuff religiously, you can keep it perfect.

What's the point in tearing up your play car if you have a DD? I don't know about you, but I'd much rather have my DD hit by some idiot in the snow and ice than my play car. That's the whole point in having more than one car - drive the one you don't care much about in the weather and save your play car for better days. The only car I own that doesn't get parked is my Focus. I don't need ABS or AWD in the snow to control my rig.

I see your point, But I treat all my cars equally. What I do for one I do for all of them I dont have a favorite one never have.If one gets blasted I can replace it or drive the other two its just a car. I dont need awd in the snow either but its hella fun and adds a degree of safety to the whole equation. ABS same deal its just nice knowing its there if you need it. I do plan to have a "play car" but I am way behind on finishing it. I did not realize how much work it was really going to be when I devised the plan. :ohdamn:

I choose to drive my GSX during the winter. I do not drive it every single winter day, yet I drive it when I feel like using it. I have studded snow tires on my four stock rims separate from my “all season” tires placed on four aftermarket rims. When I chose to drive my GSX in winter conditions, I place my studded snow tires on the car. Studded snow tires, combined with AWD, provide a lot of traction. Common sense still applies to driving in winter conditions. The only consistent “scare” I have encountered is, when driving through deep wet snow, my drive shaft will form ice chunks while spinning and make a noisy clatter against the 3” exhaust running next to it. Of course, deep wet snow can also compact under the car and tend to lift the car off the road surface meaning no traction. Such vehicle lifting conditions (produced by unexpected snowstorms while at work), require constant attention to drive an appropriate speed even with superior “potential” traction. Without paying attention, it gets scary really fast. Similarly, I change my tires back to the “all season” version when there is not winter conditions during the winter. Switching the tires takes less than 20 minutes, even with hand tools (jack and tire iron), so it seems pragmatic to me. I do agree with how poor the AWD GSX is when using “all season” tires in winter conditions. My only bad (and scary) experience was driving my GSX (when it was completely stock several years ago) with “all season” tires in fresh wet snow (the weather seemed fine in the morning). In this situation, the GSX kept moving straight through an intersection while attempting to slowly turn left. The ditch on the other side was not friendly. So, I feel proper tires make a big difference. I have the opinion that my many years of experience driving RWD, FWD, and AWD vehicles in winter conditions (using studded tires or tire chains when appropriate) allows me to share my thoughts. Having certain types of “fun” (excessive speeding, rapid braking, rapid cornering, etc.) during winter conditions is extremely risky on public roads no matter what you drive. I hope that those expressing that they enjoy having “fun” in winter conditions are not referring to actions that endanger others (finding a large empty parking lot is a little less risky). Nonetheless, I think that each person can choose to treat his/her car as he/she wishes, providing that others are not foolishly affected. So, I suppose someone can drive the car in winter conditions, or someone can garage the car during unfavorable weather. As already mentioned, cleaning and preparing a car, especially during winter conditions, is good prudent advice.

I am surprised that so few people posted pictures of their experiences driving in winter conditions. Hopefully, more people will display their pictures (particularly those living in areas where snow removal is lacking). Many of my learning experiences, concerning winter driving, relate to the rural area where I live. My driveway is a mile long dirt lane with hills. Unless I wake up really early to get out the tractor for plowing the lane, I drive through whatever snow accumulated (or drifted) while going to work that morning. I regret not having digital pictures of my GSX going up the last steep hill in fourteen inches of snow, and around a FedEx truck sideways on my driveway. I even stopped my GSX (with studded snow tires) next to the truck, took a picture (using a “throw-away” film camera), and continued up the hill to my house. My tire tracks through the yard, and all the truck’s tire tracks, tell the story best (the idiotic delivery driver was pissed at me for taking the picture…until I pulled him around with the tractor for free [the event was priceless]). Anyway, here are pictures of my dirt driveway (portions of it) after a light dusting of snow last winter.

I look forward to winter. I've had a AWD Talon every year exept 3 since 1998 and AWD in the snow is the sh**. Last year I thought my summer tires would be o.k. in a little snow, but I learned quick (almost totaled it) once I put the proper tires on though back to fun. I've got about an extra 100hp this winter so we'll see how that goes. If you don't drive a dsm in the winter your missing out their awsome.

i no this threads old but what the heck, i drive mine everyday to work and school ,she starts every time 2-3 cranks no problems and when winnipeg was colder than mars and the north pole she was purring like a kitten i cant even plug her in anymore either and no matter what 2-3 cranks but b4 it wouldn't start in -4 but i just cleaned my coolant temp sensor contacts and haven't had a cold start issue since i did that, my bro was telling me that some 2013s at his work wont even start in -20 Celsius haha made me laugh that my 24 yr old car starts better LOL

Ah is plug my eagle in just for the simple fact I love it so much I'd hate to had a mollais start and have the galleries run dry for even a couple seconds. I mean don't get me wrong I never plugged in but is hate to shorten the life span on my ride because I didn't plug her in. I know she would start no problem tho and they are awesome to rip threw snow that even 4x4 trucks have problems with LOL

I drive my oz edition(currently have gsx rims on) eclipse in the winter, this year is the last time. After the motor and body work is done it will be kept in a temp controlled garage.
Not dsm, but

My 3rd gen has been parked mostly this.year and my 2nd gen neon rt hasn't moved once. I have fun driving the 2g more. I agree with not being a good family car.my wife hates the car but my daughterloves going in it in the winter.

I didn't weld in new panels, sand blast everything, seam seal everything, under coat and paint everything for nothing ya know...

Of course I drive mine in winter its half the fun of owning a AWD car!! people need to live a little, DSM's aren't rare + not having no stupid driver aids shows who has the real driving skill.

Mine is rare (631/1000), but if I hadn't bought it for $650 and rescued it from a seven year rodent infestation, awful rust, and a horrible case of bent valves, it would have probably ended up in a junkyard so... YOLO

I will be out playing in the snow tomorrow.
