i have a 1996 gst car turns off sometimes when i do a stop if any of you guys can help

Is this a "all of a sudden" started happening thing?

There will be a whole list of information you need to give us to help diagnose the problem.

Did you run the car very hot so you blew the head gasket? (Worse case scenario)

Are you recirculating your Blow off valve? (Very cool sound, very poor idle/stalls)

How is your volts? (Bad alternator can kill a car if your brake lights drain all the spark from your energon cube)

You got a boost/vacuum leak? Have you tested for one?

I can rattle off about 40 more easy checks on the list but I think the first few chapters of your Chiltons Guide would be the best place to start.

Diagnosing engine faults over the Internet is a very difficult process. Especially when "my car turns off" is the only real information we get from you.

Go through *ALL* of your 10k 30k and 60k then go to your 100k 120k maintenance procedures in your workshop guide and start narrowing down the things that are okay. Soon you will find the one thing wrong.

It might take time, and if you are not familiar with what common symptoms cause engine issues, it is going to be a "one check at a time" affair.

There are 3 major systems keep our engine running. Let's build a camp fire and keep that fire burning. Alright? Cool. Here we go.

Spark- (plugs,wires,timing,coils,battery,alternator)

Fuel- (filter, injectors, lines, rail, all seals that keep fuel in)

Air- (vacuum lines,hoses/pipes,turbo,MAF,Throttle Body, all seals that keep air in/out)

You are going to have to look into these systems to see where the break is.

Other supporting systems, oil, engine management (ECU/electrical) and cooling help keep the major running system alive and under control.

These are the most basic principals of internal combustion and fuel injection.

Feel free to chime in and add any info on your situation and anything you've checked/replaced already.

Details are AWESOME :)

Good luck man.

Agree with fellow member. Details are awesome. Without any it could be something basic or something more. Good luck with the information he gave. That should be a good starting point

I think once you answer some of Priority's questions, we'll have a better idea of where you're coming from.

I had a similar issue and ended up being my side-mount intercooler piping had come undone. Without details we can't help you trace down your problem very well...

To give perspective on how diverse a problem like this can be, i'll describe what caused my GF's car to do this. What it ended up being was the water pump went bad, let most of the coolant leak out, and then the bearing in the pump would overheat and start to sieze, not letting the car idle/start until it cooled back down. We didnt know this because she only drives to work and back and that's not enough time for low coolant to be apparent.

Now on a 4g63 that wouldnt probably happen because the water pump is driven on the accessory belt, but like I said, this is why details are important. I discovered her issue when I put an entire gallon into the coolant and most of it just came back out the water pump housing.
