How does this sound for a block vent baffle? Yes I have read all the other posts about block venting. I don't want to have a hose running all the way around my block. Read more and you will understand.

I am building a 500-600hp 4g64 (4g63 head) for my RWD car and I am planning on putting a vacuum pump where the stock power steering pump normally goes. I would like to have it plumbed into the balance shaft right under the old power steering pump since I will not be running the balance shaft.

What I am thinking is a pipe that I could slide into the balance shaft tunnel so that it would be easy to install and not require any mounting or fitting. I'm thinking the pipe could actually just be some rolled or folded metal sheets or something like chicken wire (wire fence) that is rolled up.

What do you think? I would like to hear other suggestions but I am not interested in using the intake side balance shaft inspection hole that has already been posted about. I'm looking for ideas for the this location.

Thanks.

As long as it's a tight fit and doesn't rattle. I would think that would set off the knock sensor. Also this area is on the 'sling' side of the crankshaft. I would think a solid pipe with a slit in the front side face would work better. The slit would be facing the outside of the block, possibly clocked to ~ 8.

I understand the concern with the upside (sling) side of the block versus the downside but I'm going to be pulling 10-12in/Hg vacuum and like I said I don't want to run another hose all the way around or over the block. You may be right about the pipe with a slit. That may even be easier since I could just use a pipe that is a little oversized, cut out about 1/8 of the pipe from end to end, and then just squeeze it down to fit into the balance shaft bore. Once it is into the bore it will open back up and wedge itself into the bore nice and tight.
