Hey people, haven't posted on here in a while, figured I'd give some updates on the car for those that haven't been following on facebook. After a tough last season I finally got that 8 sec pass with a holset, yeah it wasn't a stock hx40, but still an hx40 with a bigger compressor wheel. After ending last season with 4 broken rear diffs I decided to do something about it, and went the 3kgt rear route, I'll have info and pics as followed. figured Ill get back in touch with everyone on the forums, that doesn't do the facebook thing! I'll start you guys out with some video's of last season!

I took the car to True Street Tuning and Fab out of Uniontown PA to do the swap. They did an awesome job, and very pleased!

Haha @ the camera man.... "whatttt??"
It about damn time, i thought you disappeared for a second but congrats!!
Also just started following you on FB as well!

Are you able to still use your dsm driveshaft with the 3kgt rear-diff? Do you use 3kgt rear axles or dsm axles? Just wondering because I can definitely see that being an upgrade for me in the future. Nice passes

congrats on the 8 sec pass, i know its taken alot of work, two cars later, few compressor swaps but you made it!!:thumb:
how was the rear diff blowing? none of the frontline fabs products could have helped you before this big swap?

I am able to use the dsm driveshaft, with drilling new holes on the pinion flange, the yoke locks right in just need new holes drilled. I'm using the 3kgt cups with custom length dss bars. The 3kgt wheel hubs that the axles bolt to, bolt right in a dsm.

I was breaking ring and pinions, then got the diff cover from Andrew and then broke a few sets of spider gears in the rear. So had the rear welded, and still broke another ring and pinion. And every time I'd break a rear it would take out the output shaft in the trans.
Not really a big swap, should have done this a long time ago. Just the 1g dss pro series axles I had cost more then this complete swap, let alone 4 rears @ $200 each, and 3 output shafts @ $300 each. Could have paid for this swap with the broken parts from last season. I did break less once I ponied up the cash for a new 8 leg quarter master clutch. Engagement was smoother then the ptt I had previously.

Is the 3kgt rear really that much stronger ?
Far as I know from talking to a few guys that's raced and built 800 - 1000 hp 3kgt said they have not seen one break. Boostin performance is running the same setup, and has 6 7 sec passes without an issue.
They're strong enough to make it worth the swap. And you can have dss level 5 axles for $600 with the axle bar upgrade.

Where they're ad
Do you mean True Street Tuning and Fab? Guy named Josh? If so, damn right he does great work! You should invest in a tubular front subframe of his too. :D

Any has the info for this guy and location? Would love to get my front done!

Is the gear ratio the same between the auto and manual 3kgt rear-ends? Is the 3kgt gear ratio the same as the dsm gear ratio?

I'm not sure what the auto 3kgt gear ratios are. The older 5 speed 3kgt rear is the same as a manual dsm, the newer 6 speed 3kgt rear ratio is the same as a auto dsm.

I thought Devin was still on the stock 2g diff with a Frontline fab cover.

Nice run & awesome times! Where did you source the 3Kgt rear and components from? What kind of 60's were you running and how heavy was the car when all the rearend stuff was breaking? I've been luckey, no major rearend issuess yet. Again nice work!

Devin most definitely converted to a 3kgt rear last season. My car weighed around 2450 with me race ready. Mostly 1.4 60fts , but my clutch releasing was not smooth, resulting in the breakage. Started getting better at the end of the season. Never broke a rear until I went full slick.
I bought all the 3kgt stuff from Hans Ertl in PA. You can find him on Facebook.

You can still actually get stuff from them? LOL Be sure to give yourself a year lead time if you do decide to take the risk and send him money. PM me first if you like :thumb:

What did you use for axels? DSS upgraded bars or Factory 3S?
