So I have a 94 talon tsi. It has several mods done to it, and the stock boost gauge is wired up to read Knock. So every once in a while when I'm driving the stock boost gauge spikes (reading knock) and the car has like no power when this happens. Then it goes away after a min. This happens under normal driving conditions, and sometimes when I try and accelerate. When it happens I let off the gas because I'm sure its not good.. But my question is what is causing this to randomly happen? Some days it happens alot, other days it never happens, or may not happen for weeks at a time. .. So I'll list my mods so that maybe that will help. Also the car is an auto.

16g turbo
680cc injectors
ECU Chip tune
2g Maf
2.5 intercooler pipes/ Big front mount IC
Full 3in. exhaust
Tubular manifold
3in. o2 housing with open dump
255 Walbro pump

I'm probably forgetting somethings, but thats most of it. So if anyone has any insight on whats causing my issue please let me know!! Thanks.

My wife and I just bought a house a few months back, so its nice to finally have my own garage! If there are any special tools you use for this job you might want to bring them if you can. I don't have a ton of tools... :/

No special tools, Theres a 19mm nut just behind the bottom of the brake disc for that ball joint down there and like one more bolt or nut somewhere but then just pull the axle straight out. Oh and drain all the trans fluid beforehand and get your trans fluid now before it snows since you have no heat! I was pleasantly surprised as to how easy it is to drop the trans on these cars, which of course means taking out the axles as well which is about as easy as puling a stick out of some mud. You'll do great, have it done in 10 min and you got rough there to which will be helpful so for you this is best case scenario :thumb:

Already got the transfluid because when my axle broke all the trans fluid came out with it!! My concern is the end of the axle broke off inside the trans. What do you do about that? at least thats what it looks like

Do you have any pictures of the end still stuck in? Is the axle just separated at the boot?

All the axle I need is what's in the box to get it off the transmission.

No need for a pickle fork and to mess with ball joint. Just unbolt the strut from knuckle and unbolt swar bar link from either sway bar or control arm. Doing this two things are easier and quicker then trying to beat the ball joint free. This gives enough space to remove and reinstall axle. This is how I do mine now. Seen it on this forum somewhere awhile ago and ever since then Ive been doing it. Less chance of ripping ball joint boot as well.

i dont have a cotter pin, it didnt come with it. i'll pay you for whatever is needed to be paid for. and that very end is stuck in the trans from what i can see....

Thanks 1990dsmkid, The 1g is different as I read on, only a balljoint holding the knuckle on the bottom unlike a 2g that has the LCA pocketed next to the ball joint!
Your way is the way to go!! Thanks again 1990dsmkid :)

More then welcomed. Figured Id try and save you guys sometime and not having to mess with ball joint. I also agree on being able to get the axle out no problem. I find it hard to believe the splines breaking off the cup as well. The joint in the boot more then likely failed and broke. Also if needed, you could always heat up the axle nut to help get it off if breaker isnt just quite enough but it should be.

Rough, what day are you thinking of doing all this? My name is Nathan By the way. Im free tonight after 6:30, sat evening after 2:30pm, and all day sunday. Just let me know!

Man id love to have someone in my area to DSM with LOL.. it really is an easy job changing an axle.. you will see.. and Im sure all you did was break it off at the top boot.. transmission is probably fine too.. and by saturday night you will be dealing with knock again :)

Well we have an update. Doug came over, we pulled the axle out and ran into a bigger problem. The splined piece sheared off clean in the transmission. No way to grab onto it to pull it out. He took some pictures and I think he's going to post them up on here so you can see what we are working with. The only thing we can think of to do is drill and tap into the shaft, get a long threaded rod to thread into it and pull it out... Any other suggestions on how to get it out would be greatly appreciated! And a big thanks to Doug for coming over and helping a fellow member out, Great Guy!
