Hello guys. I am fixing to go pick up a 91 talon awd that's about three hours from me. Current owner claims he rebuilt motor got a couple days of drive time before it started spewing coolant from water pump area. After searching the only common issues I could seem to find would be the water pump shaft seal being bad. The o ring from the pump to water pipe being bad. Or worst case scenario the head didn't seat correctly. maybe some one with more experience could chime in on other possibilities? Really hoping to get my first awd dsm!

That's what I was thinking also. I figured I would take a gamble on getting it. Just curious on why some one would do a rebuild and leave old water pump. The timing belt does have to come off to swap the pump correct?

to change the timing belt would not interrupt water pump. The only thing that would need to be pulled off would be the pulley. the from en housing goes around the water pump Orpheus. its a little bit of work to change the pump on the car but better to do it now then to find out there was bigger problems.

The guy I bought my 1990 eclipse from had the timing belt changed at 90k miles, but he didn't change the water pump. Some people are just not smart.

could be as simple as a flubbed water pump gasket at install or too long of a bolt used in the water pump bottoming out and not letting it seal.

I suggest buying an entire oem replacement, they arnt expensive and fairly easy to change. Who knows what kind of miles are on it and for the few hrs it takes to properlyrreplace it.... Why not

Thanks for all the input guys. I am going to go pick it up Saturday morning and order an oem pump with gasket set. Hopefully all goes well.
