That never came on a Volvo only the Gmc and Chevy 6.5 trucks. It is a good turbo and worked similar to a Holset he351 on my setup but will not support the power of a Holset.

So it would be goo for something like rebuilding it and replacing a T28 with for a better bit of power? Something good enough for a DD with the correctly matched plumbing...

looks like you would need a top mount manifold or a custom downpipe to get it to work, but that compressor housing looks like it could put some numbers down

Definitely an IHI RHC6 from some variation of the GM 6.5L diesel in the early-to-mid 90's. They called this turbo the GM1-GM8 based on compressor clocking, wastegate configuration, turbine housing type/style, and other options as the trucks progressed. Not sure why it's on a Volvo.

Best information I can find is the compressor's roughly 51/70mm making it about the same size as an 18G wheel, rated at 625cfm (43 lb/min) which is also nearly identical to an 18G. I'm not sure how some previous posts were comparing the performance of a 51/70mm compressor of this turbo to a 60/86mm compressor of a HE351....that's horribly misleading.

If you want to spend a bunch of time and money tracking down a decent T3 manifold and fabbing an o2 housing to adapt what's basically an 18G to your car, then by all means... ;)

Based solely on the compressor cover, I can say it is a small 16g serial number 49178-05200.

thanks for all the speedy replies! And i hope its a 16g! I can attached post the past owners receipts. I turned them into an excel sheet. Maybe it'll give us a clue! I see dsm evo III housing, megan downpipe and megan turbo outlet. maybe itll help us piece it together

i have a chance to pick up what we think is a prototype fp black with low miles on it. But I am not for sure that it is a black or not. Is there any way to tell what the turbo really is? Here are some pics if they help at all.

I really need help identifying a garrett turbo I recently purchased. I've searched online for about 45 minutes and the only thing I've figured out is that it appears to have a 60 trim compressor wheel. The wheel has 8 blades and I calculated the compressor trim using this formula: Trim = 100 x (inducer diameter² / exducer diameter²). However, the inducer and exducer measurements don't match anything I can find online. The compressor wheel inducer measures approximately 54.2mm (2.135 inches) and the exducer measures 70mm (2.759 inches). Based on the those measurements, the wheel trim is 59.95 or so. The compressor housing says GARRETT M-24 A/R .60 but I know that really doesn't help identify this turbo. Does anyone have any idea what turbo I have? Please help!

Garrett T04B-something....pretty sure the old V-Trim was the compressor with an inducer of 54.2. Probably has a giant P-trim turbine and has no business being on a performance 4-cylinder....do some research regarding how the T04B V-trims worked on DSM's before deciding to run one. ;)

Just bought a 93 gsx parts car and this came with it, seems huge to me and I don't see any markings except "air 50" on the side of it. its about 8" wide. Any ideas? I want to sell it but I would like to know what im selling.:idontknow:
