Ok so yeah I'm a newb on this site but far from a newb when it comes 2 cars,

So here's my question and yes I've searched for it.

What will it take to drop an evo engine in a 420A eclipse? How much fab work is really needed? I need to built my motor but I'm thiking in the long run the evo swap would yeald better results then a eagle rod and weisco piston set up........and please I don't wanna hear sell it and buy a gst or a gsx....I got the car for next to nothing and the body is supper clean.....id love to buy a gsx but its not in the cards for me fight now

Obviously I will need
Engine and trans
Thinking a stand alone would be the best way
What else?

And most important the fab work.....what will it take?

You haven't search near enough. It is on the site. Will cost you around $30,000 to pay some one to do it since guy out are a been to cars, and about 12-20,000 for an evidence donor. The cars are completely different. It would be cheaper to put a SBC in it.

I can do all the fab work myself and the motor and trans are about 3000 ish......again not what I want to hear id like actual tecnical info........if its on the site then maybe a link to it? I have searched but I'm not coming up with anything from my phone......

So again a straight answer about what it would take not its gonna cost me X amount or blah blah blah

you wouldnt be able to use a current evo 8 or 9 4g63t, you would need to get a jdm evo 3-5 motor i believe in which the orientation is the same as your current eclipse. in this case however its not much different then just throwing in a gsx motor.

it would be much easier and probably cheaper to just build and turbo your current 420. if all your looking for is a bit more power. it would be a lot less fabrication and there are bolt on kits already plentifully available.

if your looking for large hp numbers then as you stated it would be better for you to just sell your current car and get into a gsx

Ok getting better...so an evo 2or 3

And honestly I think there would be more fab work to put in a 4G63 having to turn the motor around no?

And what kind of hp#'s can the evo handle?

And selling the car and getting a gsx is not going to happen

First of all you say you have a 420a and your profile says gst. Second theres enought turbo guys on here that want the evo 8 & 9 motors in there car and cant because its switched around. There is also a lot of 420a guys who ask to put the 4g63t engine in and they also never get that figured out sooooo..... You want to just jump straight to evo 8/9 engine ? "id love to buy a gsx but its not in the cards for me fight now" Now I dont know if "in the cards" means you cantafford it, but if you cant afford a gst/gsx you cant afford an evo swap. I say give it up.

From the sound of this whole post I would say that you dont know that the evo 2 & 3 is a 4g63t. I could be wrong but help me help you.

Yeah I have a spyder and I have a gs I just picked up.....the spyder is the old ladys car the gs I just picked up for basicly free but the motor is shot....

$$ isint the total issue here altho I'm no baller with unlimeten income but a grand or so at a time is more possable than 5-6 all at one time for a new car......and if I get a new car the wife will divorce me LOL......she ill never notice an engine swap........no I didn't know the early evos were 4G63.......been searching and searching and all I find is it can't be done its 2 much money......no one has said why its not possible tho......I have access to just about any fab stuff I will need......even as far as a cnc machine.......I'm not trying to spend 10K on the car looking at the newer evo stuff engine and trans are about 3K.......all I have seen are horrer storys about the 420A motor built or not so I'm thinking a proven motor is a better option?

The 4g63 swap is possible in a 2g 420a. The evo 8-9 basicly drops in with few modifications to motor mounts. Wiring is another issue. I'd try to get a gsx or gst wiring harness since its possible to use a evo ecu in a 2g gst or gsx and work from there.

Wrong..... he actually needs an engine off an EVO 8 or 9 to make it work. but anyways... Its still alot of fab work to make evrything bolt up.

Hey its his money, and IDK about you guys, but I've always wanted to see a 420a to evo 8/9 4g63 swap.
I say go for it!

Wait, so you are converting it to AWD if you do in fact motor swap it?

5-6k for a GSX? Wow, i picked up my TSI for 1500. I completely respect your right to do whatever you want with your time/money, but buying a mechanically sound GSX/TSI AWD motor and drivetrain to swap into your NA eclipse wouldn't hurt the bank too bad. And it would all fit, without a whole lot of fab work. It still wouldn't be evo powered, but way faster than your NA FWD commuter car.

I've been thinking about this swap myself but I'd like to convert to awd with the evo 8 mr with the 6 speed transmission. Would all that bolt to a gsx drivetrain or would it require hella fab work?

Here is what I don't understand, by the time you buy the engine, trans, tcase, etc. you could have bought two or three GSXs. I'm not trying to shoot your idea down or anything but you aren't making any sense. Ask yourself why the swap has only been successfully completed only a few times.

Hey man I hear you. But I love my first car more than money and even tho cost will be literally 10x what the car is worth I just want my own special eclipse. I DO NOT plan to ever sell just build so to me it's more so "why not"
