So I have a 94 talon tsi. It has several mods done to it, and the stock boost gauge is wired up to read Knock. So every once in a while when I'm driving the stock boost gauge spikes (reading knock) and the car has like no power when this happens. Then it goes away after a min. This happens under normal driving conditions, and sometimes when I try and accelerate. When it happens I let off the gas because I'm sure its not good.. But my question is what is causing this to randomly happen? Some days it happens alot, other days it never happens, or may not happen for weeks at a time. .. So I'll list my mods so that maybe that will help. Also the car is an auto.

16g turbo
680cc injectors
ECU Chip tune
2g Maf
2.5 intercooler pipes/ Big front mount IC
Full 3in. exhaust
Tubular manifold
3in. o2 housing with open dump
255 Walbro pump

I'm probably forgetting somethings, but thats most of it. So if anyone has any insight on whats causing my issue please let me know!! Thanks.

I had a built turbo civic ONCE... and never again. That thing had all kinds of problems. Built B18 with a Garrett turbo kit, dyno'd 418hp to the wheels. The head gasket was leaking oil out the side of the head....had a performance shop redo the head/gasket. after they were done still leaked oil out of the head gasket area... never ran right after any of that.

Going off topic.. but i have accord with h22 and 62mm borg warner turbo fully built with 1850cc injectors... 470 on 15 pounds.. hits 600plus whe up to 25 to 30

Id be willing to bet something was warped and they didnt catch it.. happens on turbo builds a lot, especially hondas.. you have to machine the deck and head to be completely level.. we have a civic out at the shop here about to break into the 6s

Sounds nasty! So I went and ordered a new axle from autozone, They had one for non anti lock brakes, and for anti lock brakes. Pretty sure it has anti lock brakes on it???

I dont see a junction box.. I guess I ordered the wrong axle then? I got the one for anti lock brakes.

Do you have an abs light in the car? The vin might tell you too... usually abs cars have an ugly junction box. On 1g its right next to the battery

Yeah I dont see that box anywhere. Just the metal brake lines going into the tower..

I THINK an abs axle will work on a non abs car but not visa-versa. But its always good to have the correct part .

DO NOT BUY AUTOZONE AXLES!! YOU WILL BE DOING THIS AGAIN, paying for the tow, and whatever else that breaks from the horrible quality of autozone parts!

I made the mistake of using an axle from them, 3 axles later, and 2 tows, I moved on! Autozone sucks for quality parts!

Please listen to this, DON"T ever buy autozone Parts that your life or car's life depends on!

Get a Tough One from Advanced auto, great reviews from members on here, and I've yet to break it or have a single issue!, plus they are stronger then OEM!

I bet your TSI with the same mods would murder that honda and then some! :) At least you built it right, and not slap on exhaust, graphics, lights, and call it fast :D

Well its already ordered and paid for. I'll have to use it for now I dont have time to wait for another part to be ordered. I'll just be alittle easier on it till i can upgrade all the axle's.

From that link that was posted here it says all the different axle's are the same length for turbo cars. either way the non ABS and ABS ones are the same length. So that's good news that I dont have to return it and wait for another one.

I hope you have better luck then I had!

My first axle from autozone, Installed, double checked, went around the block, called it a night.
Went to head to work in the morning and the YOLKS separated going down my drive way!

Second time, I was going up hill, heard a rotational grind, then pop, and metal was dragging, all power gone, pulled over asap.
Axle separated from the YOLK Again!!

One last time, Warrantied out the axle, put in the new one, it drove alright for a day, about a block from home, got on it, then I heard and felt a light snap with no power to follow, the yolk fell apart, spinning the axle halfway decimating the boots.

I replaced the axle because my balljoint was bad, and the boot had a crack. Little did I know, a few weeks later, the balljoint would fail, destroying my corner panel, rim, tire, drivers side ground effects, inner tire liner and pushed back the mounting points for the skirts.

The last straw.. 500$ later in parts, plus a tow, same exact thing happened right in front of work!! Embarrassing, plus I couldn't move my car, I was blocking the only entrance for 3000+ employees! That was it, I had it. I even thought about suing Autozone for this balljoint, almost killed me twice, and it was brand spanking new and was suppose to meet or exceed oem spec's which it obviously didn't. At least the crappy Mitsubishi balljoints lasted longer..

You still order one from advanced, if you do it online, you will get it way cheaper, use a promo code for 20% off, and you can pick it up in store, possibly today!

Well autozone had two different ones, they had the refurbished ones and they had brand new ones. I ordered the brand new one... Not sure if that makes a difference??

Also, I get free towing... but either way I sure hope this doesn't happen to me too!!!

My main concern right now is if the axle is the only problem.. I HOPE nothing is wrong with the transmission too!!

I've never replaced an axle before.. so I'm alittle concerned about doing it LOL. A friend and I are going to attempt it tonight. Any advice on doing it? Didn' t know if theres any special tricks to make doing it any easier..

if you got the brand
It sounds like that's your only problem :) Was probably an autozone axle on there to being with hehe :)

Have you replaced one before?
Autozone new axles are not horrible.. refurbished suck.. advanced auto Ive used as well.. we usually stock up on axles for track cars because they almost always break at a launch
