Little about my self I'm CJ have owned a few Mitsubishis in the past an 03 3g eclipse and an 91 Montero( first vehicle). Have always been into cars but mainly trucks and was looking for something cheapish, good on gas, etc as I finish my two other project vehicles and sell my huge diesel. And found a 97 eclipse for $700 bucks and went and picked it up. Guy didn't even know it was a gst!!Only thing that had even been done to it was fender well was cut out on the pass side for the intercooler, and rims other than that bone stock with all factory parts.

The bad: leaking rack and pinion, clutch kinda works, shifter was sloppy, broken tail light, broken bov, small oil leak from filter housing. and a few other nit picky things on my end.

bringing it home.

Got the new ngk 7131 plugs in it and took out some shotty e3 plugs and noticed my wipers were all sorts of jacked up and found this, got one on the way from cali as its cheaper than any local yard could match

Now fixing the broken wire on the filter housing and getting it to stop leaking

ordered a extremepsi intake kit and ngr bov to fix the broken stocker and keep it recirculated instead of to atmosphere and did the bcv mod while i was at it.

still waiting on my srs cat back exhaust to get shipped will be a week on monday since it was paid for. Decided to not use the stock flywheel and ordered a fidanza aluminum flywheel from extremepsi along with the oem release bearing, bearing clip, and oem rear main seal( might as well do it while its apart) which all those parts will be in this week. and how it sits currently waiting on the above mentioned parts.

Thanks, have been a gear head since i was 14( hence my other project waiting for a motor transplant/upgrade next to the eclipse) And on dsm's I'm still learning new things, mainly just reading alot on the forums what works, what doesn't and looking up peoples reviews on products also. Next mods will be triple pillar pod/gauges, manual boost controller and xxr wheels in place of the current enkei wheels.

well fidanza and oem parts will be here tomorrow, gauges and pod will be here friday. and the exhaust who knows when since fedup fedex has lost it twice in a week.

got some more parts in, another set of tail lights for some custom touches, the ones on the car will be staying oem and no mods,

Figured out why the speedo wasn't working somehow somewhere they broke the speed sensor and thought jb weld would fix it like they did with the bov.

Good stuff and nice progress. I have had my GSX for a year and have made about this much progress.
Going to check back with how you like Fidanza, since it was something I was considering. Josh

well if all goes as planed it will be ready to go get some 91 on sunday, then inspected and smogged next week before the downpipe, gauges, and stereo go back in it.

Well finally got some work done on the gst today after getting off work, sway bar yanked out, new wiper linkage installed, fender light installed and wired. then another few boxes showed up past week. Oem parts two from extremepsi and other two from a discount Mitsubishi dealer in dallas.

Oem bnip fog lights!!!
20150205_180406_zpsurchuh74.jpg

will be keeping them off the car and fabricating some replacments out of aluminum to keep the oems nice and shiney.

and room mate came out and helped for about two minutes and the aftermath is two broken cv shafts which i need to order now.

sucks that with the promise of beer and bbq all my good mechanic buddies can't get away for a little bit to give me a hand on the weekends. Will see what i can get accomplished tomorrow, definitely getting the rack an pinion in and getting a higher lifting jack to lift the car up more to be able work easier. Still waiting on the dp and gauges to get in but at this point im in no huge rush to get them here to sit in the corner of the garage.

Well small update, had to get a taller jack to lift the gst up more to be able to easily work under it so i can finish the clutch and flywheel tomorrow. Thinking the downpipe got lost in the mail like my exhaust did. but did get the exhaust on and luckily none of the bolts were welded or siezed on there!

then tinted a set of the tails i have for it still debating if i like it or not.

Was finally able to get the trans off and so on just waiting for my gf to bring me my tube of gray rtv for the rear main seal housing. And glad i bought a new fly wheel as this one is a goner.

20150216_150208_zpsd3ubsdri.jpg
some of the cracks go all the way through.
and pressure plate and clutch.
20150215_153116_zpsp0arzxsn.jpg

will hopefully have a bigger update tomorrow or wed when its all back together minus the srs downpipe and gauges as fed ex lost those two packages.

Well finally got it all back together, took it for a spin and was fun even not being able to get into boost to much due to the new clutch. took a few hours for the rack and pinion due to having huge hands and small areas to get into. Liking the aluminum flywheel and the srs exhaust sounds great, just have to get it to pass smog and inspection after that the catless downpipe will be going in along with the gauges and waiting for my truck to sell to get some xxr wheels for it to replace the enkeis.

and tomorrow i will attempt to put the new passenger door handle on.

what i was thinking, and need to track down the alarm points as it seems to like to set it self off when locked with the key.

Awsome build. I see you made a reference to a dealer in dallas. Im in Garland Tx. My wife bought me a 97 gst for valentines day. Reading what you have done has given me a starting direction.

its fun and if you start tearing into it make sure to either label where nuts and bolts go or put them back where they came from.

put a few more miles on it yesterday along with another oil change, went to put the wiper arms on and bolts got lost before i started the clutch work and have to order a new wiper arm as when the linkage broke it rounded out the inside of the driver side arm.

gotta pick up the wiper arm tomorrow and new nuts to hold them on, got the srs downpipe installed and sounds way better and no cel light after the install. then off to get it inspected and get an alignment done on it before the gauges, boost controller and head unit go back in it.

Great job and $700 was a steal for sure! Did you check the timing belt? If you're not sure when timing belt or the tensioner was replaced then you should definitely put that next on the to-do list. I recommend using OEM belt & tensioner. Be sure to replace the balance shaft belt as well. Yeah I learned the hard way about 7 years ago. Failed timing belt tensioner = bent or destroyed valves

It all looks fairly new, But once its fully legal back on the road I might tackle it myself or take it over to alamo motorsports and have them do it, will be doing new lifters at the same time.

got the wiper arm installed, installed a different set of fog light bezels to keep the others in the package (gonna hold on to them bnip) and also got the passenger door handle replaced only took about 15 minutes and two zip ties to make it actually allow the door to unlatch

Thanks! Really wanted a gsx but for what i paid for the gs-t i cant complain about it, will be better when the clutch is finally broken in.
