I was wondering what all is required to put an Evo IX intake manifold onto a DSM head. I know Evo 4g63 engines are backwards, so is this a possible thing, or is swapping an entire Evo head a better route due to the air flow direction?

It would cost more to build or swap as opposed to just buying an rvr- or evo 1-3 intake manifold from a foreign country and have it shipped to you, factoring in time labor etc.
but I'll humor you, the easiest way I see would be to get a junker stock turbo 2g intake, chop the flange off of it and weld it in place of the evo manifolds.
Swapping the head would be a way more involved process, both would require welding no matter which you choose.

The reason for this question is because for a side project, the throttle body will be on the other side of the manifold in the same spot as the backwards Evo 4g63. So looks like cutting and re-welding the flange will be my best option in terms of being cost effective and reduction of required fab work.

Only real point to that would be RWD, otherwise use EVO1-3/RVR as mentioned above. JNZ has an EVO 8-9 intake modified for use on a DSM, you'd need a 2G head to use it.

It's the manifold shown. He built it for a 4G RWD shop project that's on hold. Since EGR is on the wrong side you'd have to get creative if you want to retain it, otherwise just tap and thread a plug into the head. I believe the EGR passage on the intake itself has been welded shut, if not you'd just need to use a block-off plate.

It's a one off, he didn't bother to put it on the site because there wouldn't be much interest and it's more trouble than it's worth to mass produce. I just know he'd sell this one since he's not using it.

I've been browsing Project Zero G for some time for info, great site. Thanks for those page links, hadn't seen them before now. :thumb:

I know Magnus sells Evo manifolds, but haven't seen one for a rwd dsm application. Not saying you're wrong, I just haven't seen it (yet). I tried emailing them yesterday, but my email said their email was wrong.

If you don't need egr, then that will make the job go by a whole lot easier man. I'd also love to see how much better an evo intake works on the 2g heads, I was planing on getting an evo 1-3/rvr intake, but after doing more research, I might decide to go your route with using the evo 8-9 manifold myself just to be different :thumb:...oh well better get back to the garage to make some more modifications to my junk 2g head, re-build transformation, I can worry about intake manifolds when the heads all doneLOL.

Nice. Well in the next few weeks my Spyder's engine should be dropped into my GSX and then this project can start. Haven't seen or heard of a rwd spyder yet, so hopefully it'll be even more unique. Will update this as things go along.
