Hey guys, the name is Paul.
I'm new to DSM's :)
A little about myself--->
I'm 23, not new to Mitsu's. I've owned/driven several different models.
Among the cars I've owned my two Mirage's are the most memorable.
I just love these small cars, they're lots of fun. I'm also a moderator at Mirageforums.net so anyone that is on there, say hello! Aha.

Here's the story of how I got my GS-T and a bit of info on my current/previous cars.

I'm a nursing student. Just got into a nursing program which rocks, but I had to cough up 4k before a deadline. Well, I decided I had to part with my 5G Mirage sedan.
I had a lot of money and time into that car. I even have a 4g69 block & KIA DOHC head, modded by TRE evo 8 T-case, lots of forged parts that were going to go into it for an awesome street build. I planned to ventually convert it to AWD (I kept all that stuff btw)

So anywho, I sell my sedan and pay off school, but now I only have my coupe.

pJ6jjPU.jpg

With a 4G64 DOHC conversion (about to hit 3k on the fresh rebuild) and some suspension/brake mods.

Plans were to boost 12lbs on a stock evo 10.5 turbo, but I'm holding off until school is over. I only need 1 headache for the time being. Besides it's got plenty of pep as is.

So anywho! A family friend had this Eclipse sitting, supposed to be a family members but my friend is tired of it and was even thinking of junking it. Well long story short, 300 dollars later I own a 97 2Gb GS-T.

The engine is self sounded healthy, it's burning a bit of oil but nothing major that would make me worry.
It's a total POS to say the least, but I was kind of excited to have a new platform to work on and I've always been a sucker for these cars. I think they look great.
Even came with some mods. Like a full 3" exhaust and HKS Hi-Power, Greddy piping to the stock intercooler, Injen intake and a (probably fake) Greddy BOV.
So I figured I could sell that stuff and break even if it turned out to be too much to deal with.

So far I have a leak from where my oil filter goes (already searched and think I found the issue) ordered the O-ring/coolant gasket. I think is what it was called? But yea. Got that. Also have a rather small leak from where my trans/block meet, but I'll deal with that after fixing the one by the filter which is MUCH more noticeable, specially if the car is running.

Going to do the basics this month.

Oil, filters, spark plugs, cables, and some gaskets and check all the hoses. I'm sure plenty are cracked (boost leak, oh noez)
next month I'll be focusing on the timing belt, water pump and the trans leak.
In case you're all cringing at the thought that I'm waiting until next month to do this, I don't drive the car and I'm not that loaded with cash
I have my coupe to DD.
I'm going to take my time fixing the GS-T. No rush. I want to get it running right, and do maintenance before I even consider engine mods.

Well I think I've rambled on enough, here are some pics

Lame carbon fiber hood and not an oem bumper. Also, these headlights are awful.

Don't laugh. Those tail lights. Haha.

HKS Hi-Power. Dat camber wear tho

Got lucky at the yard. Too bad I didn't see the VC had a small hole in one of the spark plug wells :(
Oh well. I'll toss it on as a temp while I freshen up my OEM one and hang this as wall art

Scored these locally for 25 dollars

I just ordered some stock headlights/tailights this week, and I also have these sitting around. I like how they look on 2Gs.
eEvk8Sd.jpg

So exterior wise all I need is a bumper and some fresh paint.

Finally here is the 4G63

So yea. The car is definitely rough, and I have a lot of work ahead of me. I'm looking forward to learning more about these cars, this forum and maybe even meeting some of you. I've made really good friends with people I wouldn't even have known if it wasn't for forums.

So yea. Sorry I wrote so much

Any advice, tips or just anything you'd like to say. I'd appreciate the feedback

Welcome to the dsm world. Great find for 300. You will enjoy driving and working on your dsm. Good luck

Welcome, I want to see more Pics of the mirage

$300 for a running car is a hell of a deal. I just picked up a 95 with a rod knock for $300 but came loaded with goodies. Even Came with a Evo 3 16G so if needed , Ill break even rather quickly.

Looking forward to watching your progress.

Thanks guys! I have a lot to learn. I'll rry to do Members Ride thread when my 30 day probationary period is over.

I'm pretty stoked about the car. Can't wait to make it my own.
I was hesitant at first, but honestly j just couldn't pass up on the price.
Boost sealed the deal. Haha. I didn't beat on it, just spun it up to 5-6k on a couple small pulls. Felt strong. I then drove it back home (about 20 miles) and had no issues on the highway/streets.
Idles nicely at 800rpms.

Sure! What would you like to see? The coupe?

So I was bored yesterday, and it was my day off, so I decided to freshen up my VC.
Pretty pleased with the results.

this is a pic with a VC I did for my other build, and one off spark cover. Retrofitted e8 vc spark cover made to fit the G4JS VC.

Thanks, guys.
I'm waiting on this coming week for a bunch of stuff to arrive.

OEM Tail lights, headlights,
NGK Spark plugs & Cables.
Injen replacement Air filter
Wix fuel filter
PCV valve
Mitsubishi Oil filter
and some miscellaneous gaskets.

I'm going to use Castrol Synthetic 10-30w.
thoughts?
I normally use Mobile1 10-30w full synthetic on my Mirage, but I read on here that castrol would be better for my DSM. Any truth to that? Or should I just grab what I usually do?

I also have to start checking for boost leaks, lots of cracked hoses so I'm not too surprised if it is leaking.

I'll probably toss on my evo wheels next week, as well.

After all that is done, the water pump/timing belt/tensioner, oil burning and trans leak are getting fixed/replaced.

Good find! Great price, doesnt look that bad at all the bov looks legit greddy to me. Youre starting off the right way, good luck.

Yea, it is OEM styled. It's one of those aftermarket stock bumpers you can buy on eBay. I'd rather the genuine Mitsu bumper.

Good read. I think I'll be ok with a conventional synthetic oil for now. Since I am nowhere near the power figures that he is talking about. Deff will be looking into better oil, once I finally start modding/tuning the car.

Thanks, guys!

:ohdamn:
Okay. Someone please tell me I did not just get ripped off for these
- ___-)

I looked up the OE part numbers and I couldn't find them anywhere. I guess they're discontinued?
Also, wanted to make a WTB, but I'm still on probationary membership.
This was the only set I could find, so I went ahead and bought them, but they cost me more than the fog lights themselves did!
Small rant. I feel like I made a poor purchase

Fffffffuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!
I didn't know that Satan, helped design the door handles on the 2G.

/end rant.

Hey guys. Got some updates!
First off, picked up a bunch of parts. Touched up others, took rubbing compound, pre wax and sealer to the paint.
Tossed on my e8 wheels, and fixed lots of little things. I have yet to give it a full tune up. Before anyone scolds me I've been very busy with school, but it's on my schedule this weekend :)
Plus I don't drive it around just yet. Just tun it on every few days. I'm not driving it a lot until I've replaced a lot of things inside that engine bay.

Off the top of my head here is what I've done.

Tried to help the paint
Rear hatch shocks
Rear oem tails
Picked up front OEM headlights (restored them)
Restored the rear reverse lights.
Replaced door handles (ebay special)
Evo 8 wheels.
Painted some small trim peices i received.
Ordered some miscellaneous parts.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things, but oh well. I'll keep updating as we go
Also found out the car has Eibach Pro Kit springs. WIN :D
Just the springs i wanted.

Also may order a pre painted eBay bumper this month. Just to get the outside finished.

Here are some pics!

Small updates.

Did some work. Full tune up, and got rid of a bunch of random wiring.
FINALLY fixed that super annoying oil leak coming from the oil filter housing O-ring. The thing that holds it in place was hand tight.
torqued it down, and used some loctite.
so far no issues or leaks at all :)

Fresh valve cover with a new oil cap, seals/gaskets and PVC valve.

FFKhk0R.jpg

Did the shifter linkage and shifter base aluminum bushing install. Found out I have a short shifter and a really sketchy wiring job that i need to take care of.

ycyrqN8.jpg

Cleaned up some of the piping. Still A LOT more work to be done, and A LOT more cleaning before this is even close to where I want it.

Bonus!
NhK5cc4.jpg

Went to my local Mitsubishi dealer and had some keys made for each car. Worth it.

Ordered another batch of parts, aslo found out that the recirculation hose is discontinued.
That made me sad :(
So if anyone has a mint one they want to sell me! PM me please.
I know I can use any hose, but I like OEM bits.

Small update.
More of a progress report LOL

lbuU2rr.jpg

When i got it.

o9GN9Vh.jpg

As of today. After lots of cleaning, and barely took some grease off. I'll be at least another 2 or 3 cleans before I'm happy. Will probably have to use some degreaser.

Next time I post a pic of my engine bay, it should look very nice :D
As long as the stuff i ordered from Mitsubishiparts.net and RRE finally arrive
:/
That and bought some goodies on eBay.

The satan door handle comment killed me. Totally agree. I have gone so far as to seriously debate and consider installing door poppers and just leaving the door handles on there, but unhooked, and never worrying about them ever again. :p

You're making great progress man, keep it up.
