So I've been kicking around the idea of picking up another DSM if I found one within my price range. Well it just so happens that a guy on a local car page on Facebook posted the car up for sale a few weeks back. I messaged him and offered him an old rifle, a welder, and a little cash for the car. After playing the waiting game, he replied yesterday afternoon, and my father-in-law and I went and picked it up last night.

I'm the 3rd owner, 4th if you count the guy that bought it just to fix and sell it. It just so happens that the car was fixed by a friend of mine earlier this year, and put up for sale around June. At that time there was no way I could afford it, but 6 months down the road, it's sitting in my driveway, haha.

The car is 90% stock. It has an eBay 16g and a 1G BOV on the OEM 2G piping. It's sitting at 153,xxx miles right now, but it has a rod knock... Other than that, it still has the original privacy cover and cargo net!

A little back story; I picked up a 1995 Eclipse GSX rolling shell back in 2011. I've been collecting parts for that car for the past 3 years, and have just about everything (and I mean everything) to get it put back together. So the plan is to assemble the engine I have for the GSX and swap it out with the knocking motor that's currently in the Talon. As long as all goes to plan and the engine is running well after the break-in period, I will pull it back out of the Talon, and drop it into the Eclipse. In the meantime, I plan on having the Talon's original motor pulled apart, and all needed machine work done.

I'm going to tear into the car on Monday, and I'll snap some more pictures then. Until next time guys, peace.

Nice find man! I'm also a nc native, and have been looking for another dsm for a while now ( Charlotte area) but everything on cl is way over priced for what it is, or is emaculantly out of my price range hahah. Can't wait to see what unfolds with this build!

Awesome! It's always good to find another DSMer in NC. I'm not too far from Charlotte, about 90 mins or so. And thanks! I'm excited to start making some progress on the car.

NC native as well and I'm happy to see more DSMs in the area. Seems to be dying out. Carolinadsm site shut down recently due to low activity. Good luck with the build and hope to see you driving it soon :thumb:

I feel you. I was just on FB at the right time and got a good deal. I'm trying my best to make time to work on them, and if this weather would stop being so crappy...

Thank you! I'm hoping to have it back on the road soon. I hated seeing CADSM shut down, I was on there a few years prior to the shut down.

Not much at all has changed with the car besides ordering some parts. I bought an SRS stainless downpipe, a set of ST Suspensions lowering springs, and replacement OEM radio harness. One of the previous owners cut off the original plug to install an aftermarket CD player instead of buying one of the adapters... Why must people do such stupid things? Anyways, until next time, peace!

In all honesty, not much has taken place in the last month. I've got everything pulled out from the drivers side front suspension, and in doing that I've discovered a bunch of parts that need to be replaced. But as my wife keeps pointing out, it's a 20 year old car that nothing has ever been changed on, and things are bound to be worn out. I haven't touched any other part of the suspension besides the drivers side, and so far I need an ABS sensor, axle, lower lateral arm, shock, shock mount, shock insulator, tie rod end link, sway bar link, ball joint boots (the ball joints are fine, I tore them myself), brake dust shield, wheel hub, and the bolt that mounts the shock fork to the lower lateral arm... So my quick project is turning into a bit of a headache, but we'll see how it goes.

New parts arriving tomorrow are KYB Excel-G (GR-2) shocks and struts, KYB strut mounting kits, Moog tie rod ends, and Moog shock insulators. I still need two more insulators if any other side is as worn out as the drivers side. I've also picked up an SRS downpipe, Torque Solutions shift cable bushings, a new OEM timing belt, a carbon fiber shorty antenna, and an OEM Evo VIII/IX/X shift knob. I've also got a "slightly used" ABS sensor in the mail. And maybe one or two more things that I'm forgetting.

Anyways, I'm hoping to get the block and trans pulled out soon. I'm not sure on when though, we've got some really cold weather moving in, and no garage to work in. But hopefully I'll get a day above freezing soon and I'll get it out of the bay. Well, until next time guys, peace!

Between school, work, family, and the copious amounts of water constantly pouring from the sky, I've only found a little time to get some work done on the Talon. I finally got the block and trans pulled out, and I need to do some cleaning and touch up in the engine bay. All of my front suspension is back together, I still need to do the rear though. New parts on both sides of the front include:

Moog upper ball joints
Moog lower control arms
Moog tie rod end links
Moog sway bar end links
Moog coil spring insulators
KYB shock mount bushings
KYB GR-2/Excel G shocks
ST Suspensions lowering springs (~1.2" drop)

Other than the suspension, I've purchased a low mileage T25, aluminum SMIC piping, a Thermal R&D cat-back exhaust, transmission seals, and various small parts and gaskets. I also cleaned up my transmission a few days ago. The picture really doesn't depict how caked in grease and grime it was. So I found some plugs the same diameter as axle seals, and went to work with some purple power and a pressure washer. I'm extremely happy with how it turned out. I also took my head to a local machine shop and had them lap the valves, and install my new BC valve springs. So I'm hoping to get the head put together any day now. Then I'm going to move onto the block. Until next time guys, peace!

Sorry to bring your thread back from the dead, but I think we've talked recenty on Facebook through WNCRides(Now art of motion) about trading some parts hah

Are you still working on this?

I hate that I haven't kept this updated at all. I finally finished assembling the engine last February (2016) and got it dropped into the car. After getting it wired and plumbed, I started it for the first time and it started...and then shot Royal Purple out of the side of the head. I forgot one of the oil galley plugs, so I abruptly shut it off and removed the thermostat housing and components to get to the spot where the plug went. I let everything dry and went back a couple of days later and started it up again. This time no leaks, weird noises, nothing. I was able to put a few miles on it over a couple of weeks until all of a sudden it wouldn't start. I looked over everything, making sure that I was getting air, fuel, and spark, but it still wouldn't start. At that point I thought I had screwed up something major during the build, and did a compression test. I knew this was the issue, and that I was ready to send the car to the scrap yard, but lo and behold compression was almost 180 PSI across the board. Time to start taking it back apart.

I decided to start with the fuel system, and this is where I found my issue. I disconnected the fuel rail and poured it out and it looked terrible. I pulled the injectors and they were pretty well clogged with rust and junk. So I pulled the fuel pump and looked into the tank and found out that tank was rusted to hell. So I went down to see Stevie Miller for a new tank, and got it back home, installed it, and went to start it again. Still no go. I check my fuses, they're fine, went to check wiring, and the fuel pump was getting voltage. What gives? I bought a new fuel pump, and there was my 2nd issue. The car started with zero issues, so it was time to break the motor in some more. I changed the oil at 20, 50, and 100 miles and now I'm heading towards 500 miles.

Fast forward to today, not much has changed. I put my intake on with a K&N filter, and my aluminum LICP and that's about it. The car still runs fine, but there is a parasitic drain somewhere, and the battery doesn't last but just a few days at a time. The car is currently on wastegate pressure, 10 PSI, and pulls really well for just 10lbs. I'm going to be getting a couple of new tires in a week or so, and hopefully will have time to install my shocks and struts on the rear. The car still needs a lot though, especially an alignment. I think the goal for it this year is to drive it enough to get a few thousand miles on the car, and find a good AWD shell and start making some real power.
