So when I bought my GS-T the only issue with the car is the front bumper wasn't in amazing shape. It's finally started to fall apart and I began to look for a new one and realized I don't have any clue what to do. I have no experience with swapping out body parts with the exception of changing lights and removing my front bumper.

When I look for a new front bumper what should I look for and expect? Should I get an OEM one or go for aftermarket? I was on carid and a few other sites looking at their bumpers. They ranged from $80-$250. If I'm looking at aftermarket bumpers what would you recommend, where should I order from? After I order it I assume they don't come painted and I was wondering how much it costs to get it properly painted, I don't want a cheap job that will start flaking. Should I get my local JDM shop to put on an aftermarket bumper or is it a simple diy?

Any and all information is seriously appreciated as I have no experience in buying body parts and need all the help I can get. I searched around on the forum but couldn't find the answers to all my questions, if there is a thread feel free to link me.

Thanks in advance.

Id go with a 2gb eclipse front bumper in my opinion after market is ugly go to a local paint shop for a paint just and the front bumper is easy to remove and install just bolts screws and plastic clips are keeping it on

You could get it from the dealer, but it will be expensive. Just find one in good condition at junk yard

You don't really see DSM's where I live. I have seen one Talon and I have been here fifteen years, I get folks asking what my car is a lot. I've checked junkyards several times for 1g and 2g parts and I've come across one GSX and only the rear end was salvageable, so the junk yard option is out of the question.

Thanks for the information everyone, I think I'll call Mitsu tomorrow and see what I can figure out.

I would deffinately go with OEM.

I might consider ordering a new one if its that cheap, we broke mine putting it on a trailer:(

Rock auto's shipping is crazy for bumpers. You can get the same one off eBay for about $75 shipped. I like them better because they're black plastic so when you scrape the bottom you don't see yellow fiberglass, especially if you keep it black. I would recommend getting an OEM bumper cover reinforcement if you can't reuse your old one (that metal strip that runs along the bottom), also on eBay for like $30. I also filled my bottom lip with some "great stuff" foam crack sealer so it's extra tough, and crafted my own grill out of concrete lathe mesh painted black. There's a good chance the old bolts on the fenders will break off. I just zip screwed the new one up. The whole process is fairly simple and inexpensive. Oh, you can also get Mitsubishi emblems all over eBay to put on your new bumper. I affixed mine with some "goop" silicone adhesive. Unfortunately, if I ever need a bumper for my Tsi I'm stuck trying to find a used one. I think that's extremely unfair:cry:

So I should avoid rock auto and just go with eBay? Also I have a red gs-t and you can barely see the logo anyway.

I love rock auto, but as you see their bumpers are from various manufacturers, and it's just molded plastic anyway, so go with eBay to save shipping costs. Unless you go with OEM fiberglass, and want to pay a buttload more for something you're inevitably going to crack again anyway. Even if you keep it black it still looks cool.

Personally I like the look of the factory front bumper. I would look for one that is in good shape at a salvage yard.

I love the cars natural look.

I would definitely go OEM if possible because the black plastic ones with the embedded triangle you'd find on eBay and such are a pretty hard somewhat brittle especially if it's cold, so be careful with the install but once it's on and tight it should be fine.

You can find a oem style off ebay for 100 shipped. Only issue I've found other than the diamond etching is that the material is harder. Making it not nearly as flexible as the oem bumper. And your gonna have to paint it. On the other hand if you cant get a oem locally everyone is gonna murder you on shipping charges. OR if you work at a parts warehouse, car dealership, ect you can see about getting one free shipping at 36 bucks for the bumper...

Whats a JDM shop? And yea...go OEM 2GB

There are a lot of suppliers out there. Choice of OEM or aftermarket is all personal preference. Fabrication material is the biggest concern for me. Fiberglass and it's dirivitives are easier to paint and the paint lasts longer. Plastic and its cousins bend and flex easier, lasting longer. However, getting paint to stay once they've been bumped, bent, and flexed is much harder.

It's been my experience that the Certi-fit bumpers don't fit all that well. I had one on another 2G, it didn't line up very well, and the gaps between the bumper and the headlamps were very noticable.

I bought an OEM one about 8 months ago. I think all told it was around $220 from the dealer. (Picked up)

Dodge avenger front clip. most unique thing done and the 2gb front end is played out too much. 2gb talon or convert to avenger
