When I picked up the new Talon a few months ago, I had plans on swapping EVERYTHING from the current talon over to this talon, and make it the new "race car."

However, the more I think about it, the more I am thinking of leaving it alone and making it sort-of a nice summer cruiser.

Why? Well, this new car is super clean. The "race" car is evolving to the point where it would require - at least - a roll bar to run at the local tracks legally. Since original Trboblu is not perfect; with multiple dents, cut out tire well, pushed up floor form being jacked up incorrectly in the past, ect.; it seems to me that this car should continue on as the track car. Something that will feel less guilty about putting it through paces on a track.

BUT then I thought that I could swap everything over to the nicer car, and just daily drive original Trboblu all year, even though the winter. I do miss AWD shenanigans in snow. Once again, though.. it's a rust-free car, so IDK if I really want to do that. Besides, just picked up a n/a eclipse for winter duty. Could just hang on to that car for a while.

Guess just wondering what you all would do? I really wasn't planning on getting another blue talon.. but it was a deal I couldn't pass up. :)

Attached are some photos of the new Talon.

Thanks for the advice!

Lol I'm kinda in the same boat as you! :) I've got my 95 gst and 98 tsi. My gst has been with me along time and been such a awesome car. But now I have a 60k 98 Talon and even though being in hawaii longer is surprisingly cleaner than my gst. But that's what I get for driving my gst in Chicago for winter LOL, like I'm sure your worried about. Anyway I have both cars at the point where I can go either way. It's def a tuff call and I've gone back and forth myself LOL. I think for me it comes down to which car will be safer longer and take the abuse. And since the Talon is cleaner it kinda makes sense to me to use that one. My wife likes the gst better LOL. But she hasn't seen the tsi the way I plan to have it! ;) Tuff call for sure, I would say the car that you think will last longer use for racing.

You can swap some components, but basically swapping bodies will leave both cars undriveable for a while and just sounds like a lot of work. It might be better to invest some time in fixing dents, for example, because you can stop/pause that work at pretty much any point and would still have a car you can drive if needed.

So it sounds like if you kept them both as is, you'd end up with two summer cars - race car and show car.

If you swapped parts from old car to new car, you'd end up with one summer car (show/race car) and one all year car (DD/beater).

To me, it seems like it'd be more fun to have two cars you could use throughout the whole year, vs. two cars that get used for 6 months and are parked 6 months.

In reality, what parts would you want to swap over from the old to new car to keep it race worthy? Might swapping parts and having the cars down give you a good reason to put a roll bar in so you can continue pushing it further?

I'd say keep that clean car a summer DD and use the race car as a winter DD, then get rid of the N/T. But definitely a tough situation, I have to decide if I'm going to restore my mk2 supra or buy a mk4 supra....such a tough choice.

Things happen. I'm planning to just make my race car back to normal street drivable

Swapping the parts over will also give you a chance to do all those little things right that are difficult to get to now. The result will be that both cars are better, but you will have to weigh the investment of time, and I'm sure, some dollars. If your goal is to go faster in 2015, skip the swap and focus on the race car.

Thanks for the different perspectives! The new car really doesn't need anything, other than a new exhaust manifold, and it's golden. It even has functional A/C. So, the more I think about it.. and with the input, the more I think that car will just be left alone. It's a 16g car already, so in theory, I could just pick up another ECMlink, toss in the tune from Trboblu, and have a fun summer daily. Then Trboblu can be pushed further.

I know mulitple cars can be a real pain in the ass, but I just have to stick to the plan that Trboblu is the one that gets the money tossed at it. And avoid the urge to modify both, which is hard to do. I do kind-of like the idea of having a backup 16-g powered car, so something can still be fun in the nice weather should something major happen to the other car.

The n/a car.. well, it's alright. LOL! Believe it or not, I actually am enjoying that car. I've owned it for over a month and yet have had to put gas in it. ha!

I do want to go faster in 2015, so I think I'll just continue to focus on the main car.

I just wish they didn't use salt up here.... then this wouldn't be an issue!

To help with the salt problems:
Get some PVC pipe and built a T shape out of it. Make it slightly longer than the car is wide, and make the shorter ends about a foot long, all they do is keep the main pipe from rolling. Block off shorter ends of the T and put a hose coupling on the longer end. Now take a small drill bit and drill series of holes in the top side of the main pipe, just drill through one side though, not all the way through. What you have now is essentially a sprinkler that shoots water up and is safe to drive over (thick wall PVC is plenty strong to hold up a car). Every so often you can lay it in the driveway, turn the water on, and drive over it few times to clean the underside of the car and wash away the salt. Also works good for cleaning lawnmower decks.

That's a fabulous Idea! I use to just drive over the sprinkler or hit up a car wash that has the under body, but I think I might make one of these! Strategically place holes for the worst spots!

As the saying goes..... All racecars are show cars, but not all show cars are racecars.
