Not really a DSM related thing so sorry.
I have a Boss flip out touchscreen radio that came with my 99 GST and the screen won't flip out. I hear the motor or whatever trying to push it out but nothing happens, anyone have any ideas what I could do? I have rewired it because the previous another was what you call a noob at wiring.

The gears are probably stripped. For what you'd spend on the repairs you can buy a new one. However, buying another boss would be a waste of money. Boss, dual and other super cheap brands are complete garbage. A good flip out 7" is the pioneer 7500 but it'll set you back $500 and if you want to add the nav box that's another $400. It's a really good unit though. If you want another cheap one I would say Jensen is the best of the $200ish fold out units. If you are going to run amplifiers I would just get a good alpine or kenwood excelon single din with 4v preouts.

I will probably end up throwing my sony single din in it. It's pretty nice and has many variable adjustments. I just wish I could tie in the factory amp and cd changer.

To the people saying boss sucks that could be so but i had a set of their door speakers in my 1g (came with the car) and i hooked them to my jl audio amp and ran them which they were 3 channel and 450 watt rears 350 watt fronts and i tried to blow them and never heard a single crackle from them they honestly sounded better than my jl audio door speakers that i spent good money on

Matbe i got lucky i dont know but they were great the radios though i have no experiance with

I was also looking at the pioneer flip open deck unit, I love the flip out screen, because you can add in another din some stealthy gauges above it or under it :sneaky:

I also talked to a Kenwood sales guy at an audio shop, and he only had good things to say about the pioneer units he said I quote
"I wear a Kenwood shirt, but I personally use and recommend the pioneer decks".

[Onto the issue of the op] Id say since you got nothing to loose, take the boss unit apart yourself [carefully] and then see if you can fix it you got nothing to loose really, it also could be something stupid simple, or expensive just depend.

i purchased a 7in double din Boss touchscreen radio. the one that doesnt flip.

and i have had zero issues and love it.

people bash cheap things because of the price. in all actuality it does what its supposed to play my music and touch screen.

I have a pioneer double din in mine. And I love it I think I paid about $350 but it was worth it. The only downside is u can't remove the faceplate. So if u live in a bad neighborhood that's a problem. Unless u have ridiculously dark tint ;)

Something I personally don't like about 2 DIN pioneer units, its the extra work to bypass the DVD playing safety features and the screen resolution. Other than that they are really nice head units.
I really like Alpine systems, they are the most complete, reliable and powerful equipment in my opinion.

I just installed a single din Sony and man I forgot how beautiful the screen is on it! Also it has cool little beeps when I turn my car off haha(the ricer in me) but I don't have a problem with Boss, basically what I think of them is you win or lose and it doesn't matter too much because it's so cheap! I would recommend their door speakers though. For how cheap those suckers are its worth it!

Lol they don't even sell Boss in Canada not in any of the big name store. Maybe Best buy or something but the most common name brand down here that you will see more times or not is Alpine, Pioneer, Jvc,and kenwood. How ever I just recently came across the weirdest head unit this year it was at the junk yard posted as is and I figured okay all give this "no name brand double din a look" and sure enough it was a Hyundai head unit and I have never in my 10 years of owning a car seen them make some thing of the sort it had navi it have video its quite great has anyone else seen them popping up her an there.

I don't bash boss and the likes because of the price point. I bash it because I've been in sales for over 20 years, managed the audio/video department of a future shop that did the 2nd highest volume in the company, done two stints managing local high end audio shops, so my exposure to these types of products is vastly higher than most. It's from sheer experience that I speak.
The reason you'll see a lot of sales guys selling pioneer over other brands is because of the pioneer points program. Unless you go back to old premier stuff, I'm not a big fan of most pioneer units. The double din units offer some of the best bang for buck features. The bypass feature that you're talking about is no longer a problem with 2014 units. All you have to do is put the deck in standby mode, press and hold in the lower left corner (about 1" in and up) and it will disable the safety feature that used to require a relay or trigger to get around. Alpine are great but not the most powerful. They have 18w rms per channel vs pioneers 14, however kenwood excelon has 22 which is the best on the market.
Any audio questions just feel free to ask me. I have a great deal of experience and I'm happy to share.

What would be a great 1 din flip open from kenwood with navigation, and dvd/cd etc.
I like [as stated above] having one of the dins to hide expensive gauges from the mases.

Your headunit could get more (or same as) expensive than 3 gauges, and A LOT more desirable (ask me how I know )

But if you ever consider the 2 din option, JVC makes a great quality unit, and their latest model is MHL (mini hdmi to smartphone, apple/android) so you can mirror your phone, which makes the $400 nav option obsolete, and frankly my cell phone is a million times better/faster than any tom-tom. It is also <$400 on amazon, and the resolution is supposed to be significantly better. I am holding out for a smartphone type touchscreen instead of the cheap feeling pressure-type touchscreen.

I just don't like the flip out. Moving parts tend to break eventually has been my experience with just about everything, then what are you gonna do?
