That shaft separated as a result of another issue (the cv joint snaps on to the shaft with a snap ring) I see a broken tie rod end and a badly worn tire which is indicative of worn suspension parts! I cant see much else in the pictures but "my guess is that the tie rod end and possibly a ball joint (cant see in the picture), wore out, to the point of separating" which allowed the knuckle to pull away and separate the shaft. if you don't feel confident inspecting, you need to have a competetent professional mechanic inspect the intire suspension for worn parts, (ball joints, tie rods, bushings etc) and replace what is needed. and replace that complete shaft assembly as well (now days complete shafts are pretty cheap)

Wayne I agree with ya their he totally needs a front end suspension overhaul. I thought he was just asking how to fix the cv half shaft. To me it looks like the boot totally ripped for some time and finally the inards gave out. the tie rod end and ball joint look to be in good shaped judging by the boots

This was how the shop gave me my car back after getting the ball joint done. Didn't tell me anything, thought my clutch was slipping till I got home and looked.[DOUBLEPOST=1417193902][/DOUBLEPOST]No just different angles on the front right side

sounds to me they must have been hammering on that ball joint and really rough with the cv joint. I would tell them and then never go there again

It is not difficult to rip the boot when working on ball joints if your careless about it. I would guess that half shaft was already on it's way out. A local parts store should be able to get a replacement if your in a hurry. In the states, I have used advanced auto to get axles at a very reasonable price with discount codes. PM me if you are able to use the mentioned auto supplier for a discount.

Yes I looked again at the second picture (I thought I saw the ball portion of the tie rod end) looks to be intact (my mistake) but there's still something else going on because with everything installed correctly, there is no way that shaft should be able to separate like that. Also I do see what," looks" to be a new ball joint, I suppose,( and this is just a theory ) that whoever replaced that ball joint ether had the cv joint off the end of the shaft or inadvertently unsnapped the joint from the end of the shaft and did not get it reattached correctly which would allow it to slide out and separate while driving! replace the entire shaft assembly, and a full suspension inspection is still desired, with the age of these cars routine suspension inspections is a must!

do you need it right away or can you wait a few days? rock auto has really good prices. I bought a lot of stuff from there and its been great for a lot of different vehicles

I have had both of the fronts of these in mine for almost 10 years CARDONE SELECT Part # 663102 and just now the front right one's boot is starting to crack id say they held up well and good price. I have a 5% discount code also 2701074124968488 you just type that in the how did you hear about us spot
