so i am not new to tuning cars but i am new to tuning dsm's.. ive read that because mine is a 1995 i need a different ecu because its not flashable, correct?

what ecu should i buy if so?

what kindof data link cable do i need, where do i get it?

what tuning software do you guys use? links?

Actually 95's are the year with the most Eprom ECU's. Check the oem part number on the front, and the letter in the corner. That will tell you what you have.

Yup it is, and down a little. If you take off the side panels you will have access to the bolts that secure it.

Cool, thanks.[DOUBLEPOST=1416873939][/DOUBLEPOST]so do i have to pull it to see the sticker? is it on the front or back of the ecu? (relative to me in the drivers seat)

Will all of them from a 98!99 work? How can I tell what years it's from?

Well you should be able to just buy one and like the name says it's a black box try seeing if anyone on here is selling one or on fb pages or online[DOUBLEPOST=1417059750][/DOUBLEPOST]And yes all from 98 99 should work

So it will just be black? Great I'll look around, does it say like 4g63t or something on it?

No it usually has an MD followed by a part number, which can vary per year. There's a sticky somewhere that will tell you exactly how to identify ECU's, and which ones can do what.

yeah ive been looking for such a post but have yet to find it..

1g and 95 and some 96 have eprom ecu's. 97 was a non eprom style, 98-99 have the black box ecu. You need a 95-96 eprom (or you can get a 95-97 non EPROM converted) ecu with a socket to use ecmlink. You can not use a black box with ecmlink. The black box is only flashable and has many options for that (ceddymod, Evoscan,ex..). Check out the ecmlink page, has all the info you need.
