Hi I just bough a 98 gst. Its my first dsm and I completely love it! Anyways, when I first bought it, there was no click in the clutch. About two or three days after my purchase, the clutch started to click about every 3 out of 5 presses. It does it when it is about 3/4 of the way down, when the car is on or off. I wd40ed the whole clutch assembly connected to the pedal and it went away for about a day. It also is not the cruise off switch because it clicks after the switch is out. The clutch feels fine, it's nice and solid all the way to the floor.

Anyone have any input to this? The car is 100% stock also, no clutch mods or anything.

My 1g does the exact same thing every now and then. I would love to know what is causing this as well.

Yea, My two both did/do it. Never figured it out.

mine just started to do this today 97 gst. Came out of nowhere and literally clicks every depression. first thing came to my mind was wd40 also LOL. guess I will try that white lithium grease

be glad it clicks and doesnt squeak!!!!!!!!!!! LOL mine squeaks just looking at it. As stated above though lithium grease would probably be your best bet in just greasing every moving component.

Just in case folks don't realize this (it's clear a few people in this thread don't) wd40 is NOT a lubricant, it's a cleaner/solvent and water displacer (hence the WD in the name). Use lithium grease when trying to lubricate things like this. You may find things work great immediately after using WD-40 but a little while after the chemicals will disperse and you're back where you were with no lubricant.

This is knowledge for the 1g guys. That clicking you hear is the shaft that the clutch pedal is connected to (goes through the assembly all the way to the otherside where the big spring is) is bending/twisting/breaking. This is not an uncommon problem as mine did this as well. I know ShepTrans had a modification for this problem with the brass bushing kit and weld but with DSM's now off the website I dont think you can get them done anymore but it wouldnt hurt to ask. I have dealt with many of these assemblies myself and can assure you thats your problem.

Please check your bushings and all contact points for wear. If there is a click or squeak, its most likely from pedal assembly or bushing wear.
Don't just drive with it. Get under the dash, push the pedal and allocate the issues.

Just for future reference, I still had this problem up until lately. Grease, wd-40, anything I put on the assembly did not help. I noticed a few weeks ago that my master cylinder was leaking into the cabin. I purchased a new one and upon installing, found out that the clicking had stopped! I have been click free for weeks.

Agreed, it actually will make it worse by breaking down what little grease/lube is left

You will need to check the pedal pivot shaft and nylon bushings for wear (this will require removing the pedals) the nylon bushings wear out and cause metal on metal contact and noise, also check the hole in the pedal arm where the clutch master cylinder rod connects they can wear and become egg shaped!
