Hello dsmtuners,
I just got a 97 gsx and when I turn the key on nothing happens at all. I have checked all of the basics of fuses, grounds and general wiring. First thing I noticed was I was getting power to the ignition with the white wire but nothing would come out of it in any position so I replaced the ignition switch but I am still having the same problem with the new switch. The only thing that works are the door locks, headlights, and hazards. I have a good battery with good connections on it and I have pulled apart the fuse block to see if anything weird was going on in there but it all tested out to be ok. I pulled the ecu out to see if it had any visible bad spots in it but it all appears to be fine. I do not want to just start throwing parts at it and hope it fixes it. If any of you have had a similar problem or have an idea to help me out I would appreciate it very much as I need to get this thing running and driving so I can get to work.

When you turn the key to start it does it click or anything or lose the electrical components or anything? If it clicks i've had that issue and it turned out to be the ground terminal connector was dirty and not making a good contact. Stupid question but if it's a manual transmission are you pushing the clutch in? Just covering the basica

When the key is turned nothing at all happens. None of the dash lights turn on to run the system check or anything. It is manual and there is no change with the clutch pushed in or not. I have tried with pushing the clutch and brake in thinking possibly it's a cross short between one of those two circuits but neither one had any change. Thank you for the reply and input, no question is stupid in this type of situation especially without being here to physically see what is happening!

Where did you get the ignition switch from? For you to have power to everything in the interior and even the ignition switch it, but nothing happens when you cycle the key, it honestly sounds like the ignition switch is bad and not telling the ecu anything is happening. How about the connectors or contact points on the harness of the car connecting to the ignition switch? Any debris or corrosion or anything? Ive personally never had to deal with an ignition switch so im just spitballing.

I got it from auto zone since they were the only ones by my house that had it in stock. I have checked the terminals and they are all free of corrosion and make a tight connection. I've tried everything with the wiring besides rewiring the complete ignition circuit which I think is going to be my next thing I do. The only other thing I can think of is something with the oem alarm is causing it to not send any signal out for some reason because when I put the key in it doesn't light up the ring around the lock cylinder or anything. I have seen aftermarket alarms cause a no start but never an oem alarm so I'm going to try unplugging the fuse for the alarm and seeing if that changes anything.

Sounds like it's time to break out the old multimeter, check wires that go to the dash lights, check fuses and the contacts where the fuses sit. Things the suck about electrical problems is they are a PITA to find and most the time it's because of a bad contact[DOUBLEPOST=1416707681][/DOUBLEPOST]Good place to start would be any wire or fuse that deals with ignition switch

hi there I have been getting similar problems. I of coarse started by replacing my battery and clean terminals but still got a click, click I notice when I took a separate set of jumper cable and hooked up to a good piece of metal on the motor for a better ground I got some more results so maybe try using "just the cable both the positive side and negative side of the booster cable to good solid gounds in the engine compartment and see maybe it due to a bad ground.

I was thinking it might be either alarm related or possibly the clutch switch. Have you checked the clutch switch, had it been looped to start with the clutch up?

If it was the clutch switch wouldn't the dash still turn on when he turned the key

The switch on the clutch is what I would bet on. If it has been depressed and never came back up the ecu thinks the clutch is still engaged and won't start. I just replaced mine last week do to it sticking all the time.
