OK well i have been having mechanical and running rich and lean problem, fuel cut, ect... i finally got the fuel cut problem fixed at 11psi, now im at 18psi and it was running great on the MAFT, I stupidly launched it at 5k but not a full clutch out but a feathered launch :ohdamn:, well as it was launching it felt like something in the back of the car broke, i can drive but if i give it alittle gas, i feel a wobble or thud from the back and the car starts slipping as if the clutch is going but its not, any idea what it might be? hopfully its the rear diff and not the center diff, even better hopfully its nothing serious, what should i check?

Also, is there any DSM guru's in SOCAL willing to help me for a price $$$ with my no knowledge build and tech support?

Thanks for all you're help in advance guys!!

Joe

What rear end is in the car?[DOUBLEPOST=1414751049][/DOUBLEPOST]I have know a few guys to explode the 3 bolts pretty bad LOL

Anything unusual, sometimes it pops out at your.

Fingered crossed. :thumb:

My buddy broke the rusted ass joint holding the shaft, but it was dragging on the ground. Pretty obvious their though

Inspect all the parts mentioned till you find what's broken! Not that hard to do. If nothing outside than you blew somthing inside. That would be rear diff, transfer case or trans. Finding will require alittle more than just looking. You will need to first track the noise to the component that is making it. Then open which ever it is up and inspect everything inside! I say it's the tranfer case, driveshaft/U joint or pinion, somthing from one of those.

It could be anything. You probably shouldnt be launching/beating on an antique car without having gone through the entire car and restoring it from the ground up. This is the reason these cars have a bad reputation for reliability.

A broken U joint, driveshaft, t-case, axles, or diff as stated earlier. Josh
Ok so if i pull the bolts off the rear diff will anything come out like gear oil? if so how to i fill it back up, apperently my friend said he put redline oil in it. the vibration is coming from the back end. and if it is the transfer case my friend has a newly rebuilt one he will sell me for $140, the question is how much of a job is it to change out?

I will inspect everything tomorrow or the next day, hasnt rained in like 7 months and all of a sudden sunny california wants to rain on my parade.. also i see the driveshaft is loose at the carrier bearing and has alot of play, my next update will be with a video as i hate typing, is there a part number for a new carrier bearing assembly or do i have to take the driveshaft to have it pressed on?

Transfer case isn't so bad.. Just disconnect the driveshaft and unbolt the transfer case from the transmission.

Then it is out... However, you should probably diagnose and verify what is actually wrong before just swapping in new parts.

Jafromobile shows how to remove and replace the bearing onto the shaft.

Hopefully someone else can chime in and go more in depth with things. Josh

Sounds like you broke a rear axle. They don't just break in half either. The end in the rear diff breaks off. You have to jack the rear of the car up, and manually inspect them.
