Trying to decide what valve train I should go for. The goal for the car is a DD / Weekend warrior with a 400hp goal. Stock cams for now (maybe upgrade in the future). My machine shop guy is about to rebuild my head. He said he may need to cut the valve seats for 0.5mm oversize valves because the seats are slightly damaged.

Valve Options:

I'm running the same valves from engnbldr. The head parts from him are legit and good budget components. Dale (BogusSVO) recommended then.

I bought my ss valves, bronze guides and Viton seals off engnbldr on ebay.

I have been running these valves for 3yrs with no issues. Wouldn't hesitate to buy again. Car traps 130, so you know I'm not talking about a dd that only sees 12psi. I beat on this car.

I made tons of low 11 second passes at 126ish on a 25 year old head and bottom end with 70 psi of compression on one cylinder and 120 on the other 3. You'll be fine with a stock head for your goal.

The op said his machinist told him he needs to go .5 over, so his stock valve train won't be an option. I say go for the cheapest of the bunch. They are all proven names in the performance industry. And for your goals, they are more than good enough

engnbldr sells quality stuff. Anyway, WTF? Artago no offense but You can go on the dreaded eeeeeebay and buy a brand new holset,PTE, BW,All name brand injectors etc etc etc! Its just a marketplace, ebay doesnt have a sweatshop making every part and selling it. It's real people with, sometimes, high quality parts. Even Bogus will attest to this guys quality. He has if im not mistaken, on several occasions.
I thought he was done with 4g63 valvetrain parts or else i would've certainly bought his valves/guides.

As far as your list, if engnbldr isn't doing OS valves, then i agree with minimarine: Any will suit your needs. But ask yourself, are you 100% sure without one tiny doubt that you wont want more power and a set of more aggressive cams in it one day? I bought a good set of BC springs/retainers and iirc, crower valves. Good combo, not that pricey either. But if your sure stock and not super high revs is what you're after then get the cheapest, at least the cheapest trusted name, and go from there. You'll be quite happy.
Its all about the machinist, not your choice in valves. Trust me. Hope he is adept at working the 63 head.

I have yet to find a set of valves I couldn't lap a seal out out of.

Just order the valves and guides from egnbldr http://www.ebay.ca/usr/engnbldr?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

I got std size intake valves and 1mm os exhaust valves.
(recommended by my machinist due to the exhaust valve seat cuts he needs to do)
The valves will come with bronze guides as well.

All I need now is a head gasket / valve seal kit. (MLS)
Cometic Street Pro seems like a popular choice.
Agreed?

PS: Have pics from the trip to the machinist. Will post later.[DOUBLEPOST=1413684520]

[/DOUBLEPOST]ExtremePSI lists this gasket set as: Mitsubishi 4G63/4G63-T DOHC 16V 2.0L 1997cc 1989-94

I checked and just want to make sure it will work on my 2G 7-bolt...

I would reccomend stock. I had an engine builder exhuast valve fail and destroy a very expensive shortblock. I had kiggly street behives and delta regrind HKS272 cams. I ran the same setup for years on stock valves. With no problems. The engine builder valves lasted less than a season, The guides were all egged out at the bottom and the stems all scored up. I suspect that the hard chrome wasn't very good.

Stock was black nitride, I would run black nitride.

I wish I knew that before I bought them. The ones I got are not "black" so I assume they are the regular ones?

His case is only one out of many success stories, so I wouldnt worry too much about it. It could of been chalked up to manufacture defect. In any case stock style valves are a 2 piece design that is friction welded. I would be more worried about that then a solid ss valve.

Now I cant really say but, to me it sounds like he didnt check guide bores and hone/ream them accordingly whether it be stock cast iron or bronze. If it was galling that fast had to be too tight.

Lol good one, may I ask what you guys at J.A.M have had good experience with? Super tech, ferrera, or another?

Manley, Ferrea, SI.

The engnbldr valves are very similar if not identical to what you'll find from most parts suppliers in the rebuilding community. Many of these companies offer stock replacement parts as well as stainless alternatives. I've looked through his offerings and haven't found anything that any builder can't get and offer at the same price point. We've used these types of valves in certain projects. I wouldn't use them in race engines but for stock builds and mild street/performance applications they hold up well.
