Picked up another shell recently with a load of free parts which included some Manley titanium retainers. With that, I'm throwing a spare budget motor back together and am looking for a set of valve springs to put in.

I could run used stock valves but figured since I already have retainers might as well get new springs(ti retainers dont fit stock springs). Both are about the same price, but not in specs. Mild cams, either Kelford 264, hks 272 or gsc s1.

I know Manley underrates their springs and BC overrates theirs, but any insightful knowledge of the two would be nice. I hear there are only a few valve spring manufactorers out there so these very might well be the same springs as the PAC/Kiggly beehives. To throw another one in. I also have a brand new set of OEM valve springs from a NOS cylinder head I purchaced.

Have you considered the MAP springs? I had Evo springs and retainers, so I bought just the Springs (Ultimate duty) to put in my head and just use the evo retainers I already had.

Who makes the spring for MAP? Beehives are probaly PAC. If that's the case then they're the same as Kiggly, GSC and any other beehive spring on the market. No one is making their "own" spring, just reboxing.

Precisely. And if you already have the retainers for evo springs, then you just buy the springs without the retainers for $200 instead of spending $350 or whatever the kiggly's are.

Map no longer carries their rebranded parts like their rods and valve springs or head studs. Also I dont like aluminum evo retainers which are inherently weaker and softer in a high stress environment when introducing higher spring pressures.

As for the original subject, has anybody tested new manely spring pressures? BogusSVO tested a used set and it came up to 78lb @1.530.

It's nice to save money for sure, but at the same time, if it weren't for Kiggly the DSM market probably wouldn't have beehive valve springs available in the first place. They were the first to make them available for DSMers and then all the other companies that offer them now followed suit once they saw there was a market for them. I know saving money is typically the top priority but it might be good to throw some business at the shops who directly support the DSM market (especially the few shops that still focus mainly on the DSM platform) from time to time as well. Just something to consider.

I absolutely agree with you. In fact, I just recently purchased their front clutch kit and 6 bolt flex plate. I am all for supporting those who support DSM as well as local businesses as opposed to massive corporations in regards to how I spend my money. Also have to say their customer service is second to none. I was simply providing a lower cost alternative.

I don't know about kiggly and map but I have to disagree with you on GSC being the same as the others. I just recently found out from travis at GSC that the old 5041 with the thick seats have been discontinued and has recently been replace with a new supplier. Travis stated to me that the old 5041s was an off the shelf spring in which they machined their own seats to give them more tension, in reading in the supra forum this has lead to some failed engines because of valve float. I agree no one can afford to crap out on spring and just as chris stated above we need to support those direct vendors and help them help us by keeping them in business!

My point was that most companies are simply reboxing the same springs. It's always funny when I see a forum discussion or have a customer who is having a hard time deciding between two sets of springs when they're identical. We've been dealing direct with PAC for years so it's not hard to figure out who's using and reboxing their springs.

I'd ask any seller who is making their springs for them. A reputable dealer will disclose this information for critical parts like valve springs. I'd want to be sure I'm not installing some offshore junk into a build.

Thats exactly why I original posted this thread. I was wonderibg if the two were basically from the same supplier Either way, I went with Manley soley on their reputation.
