On a Jet Plane, Illinois
Good afternoon, Tuners!

Over the weekend, I picked up another 2g Talon. Another Kona blue 2g Talon! The car is a 95 AWD, with 115k miles or so. Originally I wasn't looking for another Talon, as I just sold the automatic Kona blue 2g. The plan was to use the money to buy something newer for a daily. Well, because I did not ban myself from cragislist, I stumbled across this 2g on the Austin, TX criagslist. I had to inquire. HAD to.

Those of you that know me, and my illness... er.. weakness for blue Talons will know how this ends.
After a few weeks of chit-chat with the previous owner, helping him diagnose a few issues with the car, and waiting for his Evo to get done at the shop; the car was driven to San Antonio. It was then loaded on a car hauler and shipped to Chicago. Believe it or not, this was still cheaper than driving it back. I originally had planned to drive ti back, as I was working in Dallas for a few weeks. So what's a few more hours south, then back north? But after crunching the numbers, I decided to have it loaded on a hauler, and I hopped on a plane back home.

The car is stupid clean underneath. This is, by far, the cleanest Talon I have ever owned. Once I get some photos moved over from my phone, I'll upload some of the underside. I am the third owner, and the car has spent its entire life in Reno, NV; then Victoria, TX.

So the plan is now to transfer builds. TrboBlu V3.0 will become the fun car. And Trboblu will become the new daily driver. TB3 also has a functional A/C system. So I want to keep the car with A/C. What's more fun than having a quick street car with A/C! :) (Hence the name "project heavyweight)

Here's a few photos from yesterday, after a nice bath. I love how Trboblu makes this one look like a 4X4 truck!

Did some research on on what turbo is actually on the car currently. It has a 16g from a Galant. So a small 16g, but a real one, none the less. :)

Wow great find!! That thing is so clean!!!! Can't wait to see the progress!

At first I though you sold trboblu and I was like no!!!

Thanks!

I have some things in the works for the winter. So will see if it all pans out. And yea, I still have the first trboblu. That car will also stay with me. :)[DOUBLEPOST=1413648712][/DOUBLEPOST]Anyone with experience with the FP Green XL and FP Red? I am considering selling my never-been-used Green XL in favor for a Red. I'd like to be able to make a 10-sec run on pump gas, and I don't think that's going to be possible with the Green XL, from what I've been told so far.

Then again, 10-s on race, and 11's on pump wouldn't be bad. either. Not sure if this turbo would really be capable of that on a full-weight car. So feel free to chime in.. especially if you have experience with both turbos!

Cleaned it up with the last of the Zaino today. Needed to get that done before winter. So, natually, had to grab some photos. Gotta love that stock ride height.

Took advantage of FP's make a deal sale, and got this car a much needed new exhaust manifold. The one that is on it is cracked badly..... and I don't have a spare.

Thanks! :) It's always been a goal of mine to find a blue one that was cleaner than my current one. (it has some issues on the underside, like when the previous owner mis-used a jack and pushed the floor up, or the fact the spare tire well was cut out.) So when I saw this car; and how straight it was underneith.. I knew that somehow.. someway.. I had to get it. Took about a month total, but completely worth the wait.

craigslist. it's evil. ;)

I'm curious about the Green XL myself. I have the opportunity to get one and I was thinking of using it to break in my built 4G64. But if it's going to be a struggle to get 11's with it...I think I'll pass and get something like an HX40 w/ .70a/r T3 housing.

But, from the specs I could find the Green XL is basically just an HTA Red. 65mm turbine wheel, HTA76 compressor.

Yeah, I would HOPE 11's would be easy on the GreenXL.... as that's what the car is running now on a 16g (12's on pump gas and 11's on race fuel). LOL!

I did talk to Micheal over at FP about it, and he said that it really wouldn't be worth the money to "upgrade" to the red from the XL, as they are VERY close in specs. The Red's turbine wheel is 67mm, vs. the 65mm on the greenXL. (Like you mentioned). So I am going to give it a go. I plan to do the dual map tune with it, like I have with the 16g. If I can get this to go 11's on pump, and a high 10 on race gas, I'll be happy.

It is going to be put on a quartermaster twin clutch, though. I am done with South bend.

Really? Done with south bend? Gotta PM me with details why if you don't want to post it here.

I'll be watching this very keenly as far as your progress goes. I'll be using the GreenXL but through an Auto AWD instead of a 5-speed.

Thanks for answering all my questions though! Don't mean to bug you, curiosity gets the best of me

I need to hire you to get my car too like that! I wish I had been able to find a 2g in that condition when I was shopping, still excited to see where this goes.

What was your process on detailing the car? Is zaino relatively easy to find? Never heard of it.

Thanks! I do actually like detailing cars, despite how much work it is. But the results make the work worthwhile! Zaino is a product that is found only online.. well, at least I think. I haven't seen it anywhere. http://www.zainostore.com/

I have had really great results with the stuff, and been using it for years. It takes virtually all day to do, as it's quite involved. But it also will last a long time. I usually do the full detail on the car at the beginning of the season, then just keep up maintenance, and it'll last all season. In short, goes something like this:

1. wash with dish soap. Dish shop removes all the current wax, and dirt, ect. (Never use dish soap for anything else, because of that!)
2. Clay bar the whole car
3. wash again, but with regular car wash
4. dry
5. apply the polish. let dry for 45 minutes, wipe off
6. apply the Z-AIO. let dry for 30 mins. wip off.
7 and 8. Repeat step 6
9. Use the Zaino detailer spray for the final coat.
10. Just stare at it. :)

I will then detail the interior, wipe glass, ect inbetween waiting for the polish and wax to dry.
For maintenance, I just wash the car, and then use the spray detailer.

As for the south bend thing.... It's been an ongoing fight since the first one was put in back in May, (kevlar disc, pp, throwout bearing). That one, I knew something was off about it from the start. It was hard to get into gear at times. But I never like to think that expensive new parts are bad from the start, so did the break-in and took it racing. I didn't get a single good run out of it. It would slip in 1st and 2nd. Not the "overpowering" kind of slip, but slip at the beginning of the gear shift. So as long as you never launched the car, or tried to power-shift it, the clutch acted normal. For example, on those runs, I would let out completely once it slipped in second, give it a second, and it should grab the next gear and be fine. Freaking weird. So we took the trans back out and found the disc was destroyed. Contacted Tim, and he was ever to kind enough to help me out. So I got a ceramic disc to replace the Kevlar disc. Also, they sent me a new pressure plate and throwout bearing. Spent the weekend getting the trans back in and out. After all, the shootout was a mere few weeks away, and I was going on a work trip for most of that. So had one weekend free to do it.

Fast forward to the shootout: Clutch felt great and it actually held. I managed to run the event, make 3 drag passes, and was happy! Thought things were all ok. Took the car to Import Face off in Joilet, IL about a month later. Got three passes in: 12.1, 12.0, and 11.9. Went to back up the 11....... and it started acting JUST LIKE the previous south bend. Same thing... slips at the beginning of the shift. I thought maybe it got hot, and stopped racing for the day. Yesterday, took the car out once more, just to make sure. First pass... slipped in 1st, 2nd, and third. So I let out completely.... got kinda mad, shifted 4th, and when it grabbed got back in it. Went 17.4@100. LOL! So I am at a loss here as to what the hell is going on with them. It's a clutch that is advertised to hold something ridiculous like 650tq. The car is making 327 to the wheel (16g car), so yeah....

Some people have blamed it on the flywheel, as I am using a streelite flywheel. However, the exedy clutch I was using for years in the car gave me zero problems on the exact same setup. Truthfully the ONLY reason I even pulled that clutch was because the car was making more power than it was rated for. BUT IT WAS HOLDING fine! Even survived Hot Rod Drag Week... which is crazy. So I have a hard time believing its a flywheel issue, or adjustment issue, when this is the first time these issues are showing up with no changes to the car itself.

So idk, I need a new clutch again. And two in row in less than 6 months doesn't sit particularly well with me. I am hoping to get to the bottom on the issue, though.

Finally got the car back up to the house and got rid of the cracked manifold. Whatever was on it, ended up being a total pain in the butt to remove. But after some persuasion with a crowbar and hammer, was able to get the thing out. After the cracked one was removed, took less than an hour to get the FP one on and car back running. Now going to drive it and see how everything else is. There is still a bunch of unknowns with this car. Also need to re-do the vacuum lines and such.
