Hello all, i just sold my 2005 subaru legacy gt.. mostly stock intake blow off valve brake upgrades and a few more things.. I have been a car enthusiast for 4 years or so and i am 20 years old and am looking to get into a awd dsm.. I am currently looking at purchasing a 1g gsx in colorado but i thought i would drop the link here to see what the experienced DSM people thought of it.

https://cosprings.craigslist.org/cto/4705619067.html

i will most likely be able to talk him down to 5000. he said he will budge to 5500 but am determined to pay 5000 for this car or walk. the build was done 20k ago by the owner and his friend, they apparently got the heads and bottom end checked out to ensure good build quality before they reinstalled the engine. its a great looking car to me. just get a tune and i will be good.

any advice for me the young grasshopper?

Tough call.... really comes down to what YOU think of the car. I always say, you're gonna pay what the market demands in your area. If a modified 92 awd sells for that price up there then that's obviously what people have been getting. The only down is the lack of forged internals. If its super clean and no leaks and no rust then i could see paying the 5500. 4500 sounds a lot better for a car that old but thats my take.
Around here 2g dsms in good shape are rare on CL and go for a high price. Just make sure the compression test is good and use your eyes and ears. Inspect every little thing on that car. Evaluate the owner's knowledge. See if he know what he's talking about. That's very important

Edit: The TRE stage 3 i somehow missed. THAT is nice. Yea, def 5500 if she's clean. Like ^^^ said though, thats a whole lotta dsm for a first time but might as well do it big. You will be impressed with the acceleration, no doubt

thanks for the advice guys. he seems to know his stuff pretty damn well and he said the compression is good across the board.

Edit: yeah the TRE transmission is really attractive... and ill be going to see it this weekend and if i want to buy it i will put it on the lift at my school beforehand to check out the underbody

Nice ride, lots of $$ and time dumped into it! Just be sure you can handle it, 20 years old, hope you have some auto mechanics classes under your belt or a diy'r attitude!~
Nice find, if you are mechanically inclined, i'd buy it.

That's a nice ride for the money. In that condition around here, $5500 isn't to bad of a deal. I'm a lowballer though, so I'd say $4500 and meet at 5 like you originally wanted.

im planning on purchasing the linked car above within the week unless something happens or the carfax ends up being bad. anybody have any more advice if this is a good buy or not?

i went to check it out and here is everything wrong with it
1 broken off wheel stud
cracked windshield
right sideskirt fell off at one point in time so it was kinda rigged back on with caulk or something like that.
headliner and b and c pillar trim pieces are mission
owner will be pulling stereo upon sale
needs tune
paint is cracking on rear bumper and there is one small spot of rust.
starts up fine and idles good. seems to drive good. i just took a ride in the passengers seat but will be driving it next weekend before purchase to make sure its feeling in good shape.
the fuel pressure regulator isnt really mounted on anything its just kinda sitting in the engine bay..

the owner seems to know his stuff. this is his second dsm and he has a Mitsubishi tatto on his arm so i guess that goes to show his brand loyalty. he said he can go down to 5 grand.

i feel good about this car, most people are encouraging me to buy it other than a handfull of people that say its just going to be a problem... what do you guys think?

well i got it. turns out its consuming oil. im guessing rings.... sad day

That sucks. Sorry you feel bad about it, but these cars can go through a lot. Get it fixed and you'll love driving it.

I got my GST for 2500 with 100k miles and really no mods, ideal for something reliable and to build on, not spending coutless hours fixing the PO's hack job (95% of the time its a hack job)
