Very nice, looking awesome.

Quick question, how would that 72mm compare to a custom billet 11blade 71mm s400sx? The reason I ask is because I just went through the process of have apex build me one of these and have been waiting patiently for it to come. Since waiting I have been trying to do research on it and can't really find much since it's a custom turbo. He said it will support over 1k, so maybe it will have characteristics of that like that 72mm?

Just something I've been wondering.

Definitely one a kind build here though, for sure going to check in everyday.

God bless,

Anthony B.

What is the name of this shop? kinda curious....

My shops name is Whalen's Speed R&D. I am not really new to the group nor the shop scene but I just opened up my new shop in May. Most people know me from this car.

I have pretty much been exclusively using FP turbos or Borg Warner FMW/ EFRs on all of my builds. I prefer to use there compressor wheel technology over a KTS wheel which is most likely the wheel you are getting. The FMW wheels are true forged milled so they will withstand more of a beating and flow large amounts of air.

Cylinder head is under way. Kiggly Racing HP's, Kelfords and SuperTech parts are used.

Definitely staying tuned! Curious why he chose Feal? I'm also considering them for my coil over setup so any info/feedback is appreciated!

We went with FEAL's because of the quality of course, Swift springs and awesome valving of the coilovers them selves. FEAL also does a custom valving job to how ever the car will be driven.

Wheels and tires are 17x9 +38 Gram Lights with Hooisers drag radials, 245/45/17.

Im wiring up my evo right now for the same setup. Obviously not as powerful yet but it will be soon enough.

These horn buttons are going to FUN.

Maybe I dont know what I am looking at but in the picture of the underhood shot It looks like there is two turbos, a smaller turbo with a blue compressor housing and the big red forward facing turbo?

He is using a compound setup which is backwards from the traditional sequential setup on cars like the FD RX7 where a small turbo initially spools then a large turbo takes over up top. In a compound setup, the larger turbo is the first to get intake air and the smaller turbo the first to get exhaust energy. The smaller turbo in essence "pulls" the larger turbo to spool up but the gains are due to pressure ratio multiplication as opposed to just spool speed. Down low where the smaller turbo is efficient already, it will allow for fast response, and then up top where you think it would run out of steam, it is still able to make power because the larger turbo has already compressed the air to its PR, then the smaller one again compresses the air. The smaller turbo may max out at only a 2:1 ratio on its own, but due to the multiplication, it can see upwards of 4:1 ratios! Pretty damn cool and the fabrication show by John sure is top notch!

Thanks for the explanation.

Well plan's changed a little bit. Just got finished filling the block the rest of the way up. Welded all the coolant jackets up. Ordered a 2nd set of FIC 2150s and rail. We decided to run Methanol. Plan to to make a lot of power and go very fast ;)
