I need some advice on a brand new set of Comp Cams 101200 I just purchased. I noticed some imperfections on one of the cams in the form of light tarnishing/pitting. I'll post links to some pictures below. Do I have anything to worry about? Should I clean up the blemishes before I install these cams? If so, what's the best way to go about removing the blemishes? Thanks!

Does any of it catch your finger nail? If not I wouldnt hurt about it and run them. If it does slight you could try a little emry cloth to see if it comes out easily. These are just my thought and what I would do/try.

No, most of the blemishes are smooth and don't catch on my finger nail. However, some of the blemishes on the cam lobe in the one picture aren't smooth and do catch my fingernail. Based on the pics, what grit would you recommend? Also, is it safe to use an emry cloth on the cam journals. I'm mostly concerned about the one cam lobe but I just need to make sure I don't make a mistake with these. I really don't want to ruin a brand new set of cams.

I would use something thts really fine and wont take much off at all. Basically you just want to polish it like a crank. Should be able to knock them down even that they dont catch and be good to go. If you are that worried about it call the company and talk to them to see what they say.

As long as the blemishes are below the surface they'll be fine. They'll hold a little bit of oil is all. You'd need to worry if you've got big gouges, flat spots or any blemish that's proud of the surface.

I've got marks farrrrrr worse than that on my journals from slinging rockers. I wouldn't sweat that part at all.

Does it catch your nail? If not you'll be fine. You can buff it out.
