The heads still in good condition I just had it rebuilt 700 miles ago and I removed the head and spun it by hand nothing is damaged im not new to dsms in no way no metal shavings was just thinking that the balance shaft failed and caused some problems

Definitely go through the buttom and use quality parts
Make sure you prime the oil pump before you try and start the car....
Most important part!

Have you checked the head for bent valves? I know when my civic back in the day ripped its timing belt the head looked fine but the valves ended up being bent, replaced 4 of them and was good to go(not that I would recommend this on any performance application).

So true they're called interference engines for a reason. The only way to know for sure is tear it down and check. That's what most likely stalled it initially was valve to piston contract. If you don't mind me asking what brand belt was it?

So... I'm guessing the timing belt was broken? That would explain why the bottom end turned and the top didn't. :)

Yeah, it's a rebuild. Bottom spins, top doesn't. Major issues inside.

Or just a broken timing belt.

i can almost guarentee you bent valves deffinately get your head checked out by a machine shop

Since the OP stated 2 or 3 times that he pulled the head, I'm pretty sure he was able to tell immediately whether or not he had bent valves...at least I would hope. :)

Well I've heard of people just running the head after t belt brakes, some get lucky if course. But a slightly bent valve stem might not be readily noticeable, short of taking spring of and feeling by hand or rolling it on a flat surface or straight edge. How do you think the engine originally locked up if it's not the bottom end or the top end? I can see b/s or oil pump seizing then taking out t belt ( ik it's known) but I assumed the while bottom end is good. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just learning.:aha:

In the OP, you stated that the b/s belt and crank were ate up. Perhaps your original thoughts of the shaft being the problem were correct. Try putting on new belts and see what doesn't want to turn.

I would be willing to bet there are bent valves its not always something you can just eyeball. Have the head vacuum tested while its off, if there are no bent valves call the Vatican because that's a miracle LOL.
This is very true, I just poor gas or some non-water based fluid in the cylinder domes with the head upside down and cams removed, this will tell you if the valves are sealing properly or not. You could nto visably tell the valves were bent when I pulled the head on my civic but they did not seal at all.

That's how I tested my valves. They looked good, but a few leaked. I took it in and got it machined.

I had the head checked no damage at all surprisingly I'm just trying new belts then seeing if she will run if not time for a new block I have 3 heads for it all in good condition
