It also helps when you put things back together and you don't have extra padding, screws, fastners, ect still left over! Foam padding is very very light and works great stopping noises, and is flame retardant,

Chances are you have a car that has been messed with in some way. My new car doesn't make much noise in terms of rattles; but it's never been apart. The original radio is still in it! BUT... these are mid-90's cars, when NVH wasn't that big of a deal. The new cars have so much padding it's laughable. Also, acoustic laminate glass, and triple door seals. Those make a huge difference. I do find that these interiors were not as bad as the mid-00's when things REALLY got cheap. Then only recenetly has the interior quality gone back up.

My 95 gst was absolutely horrible with squeaks, rattles and stupid stuff breaking. That car had a rough life though. The 98 gsx had one problem, the sunroof leaked. But it lived in the garage. Now the newest project is a 96 awd talon, it's a total virgin and she drives nice and quiet down the road.

I also agree about the 1g, that car was an all around better built car from factory.

I had what I thought was a dash rattle for the longest. I was convinced it was coming from somewhere in the defroster vents. Turns out it was a hood rattle, even though there was no play in the hinges. I had a rubber doorstop wedged between the dash and window which I swore helped, then one day the noise came back and on a hunch I put the doorstop on the outside between the hood and the wiper trim and bam no more noise. Replaced one of the hinges and problem solved.

For those who say you're rattle free, what year are your cars? The only two I've ever driven are both 96s my gst spyders and my friend gs spyder. Both pretty loud, but the top makes a bunch of cracking noises only in mine... any ideas on that?

The same friend that had his gs bought an fbody camero. The interior is also straight ass. But he has two 12" subs and glass packs. So you can't really hear any rattles... or even think.
Mines a 98.

i just bought a 96 spyder. it did have some rattles, then i moved some of those fasteners around to where they where missing. fixed most of it. but then again it is a 96. the only thing i have found that i dont like about the interior is i have to have my seat so far forward to reach the clutch compared to other cars. i used to drive all the time with my knees. now i cant due to being so close. but i guess f you want perfect you have to build it. oh dam i gotta go, im in the middle of buildng perfect

Is the dash rattle towards the window or the vents? I had an old gs that had a small gap between the dash and firewall so I squirted some great stuff down there. Also read somewhere to squirt that behind the door panels in all the cracks where the plastic pieces connect and shave the excess off with a razor.

If it's ever been pulled apart, the PO probably did a fair bit of damage or didn't reuse screws, leading to the rattles.

I carefully removed my door panels, so I can recover the door inserts. I will be doing alot of jbweld repairs to the plastic pieces. Both doors have broken trim and screw standoffs.

Most of my interior trim pieces were held in with no more then 1 screw each. The stereo? Wrapped in electrical tape and pushed into place. :banghead:
