will a 2g head work on a 1g 7bolt block? and if so what it needed for me to do this. i have searched high and low and cant find anything on this topic exactly. help would be appreciated alot.

Yes.

Nothing special; utilizing only original equipment, it will necessitate a 2G intake manifold. And since the 1G block does not have a turbo coolant feed built in and assuming you intend to send coolant to your turbo, the 1G water pipe and thermostat housing would be the way to do that.

RRE's write-up, while useful in many areas, is doing the opposite of what is proposed here -- the article is swapping a 1G head onto a 2G block.

Assuming this is going into a 2G car, I'll say it again, nothing special is required if you utilize the right parts.

ok so its pretty much a direct swap out? i just use the 2g intake and evrything else from my 1g that is nesesary? is there any moding to be done at all sry for the questiond just making sure

No modifications necessary. All DSM 7-bolts use the same head bolts. Either a 1G or 2G thermostat housing can bolt on to the 2G head. You can only use the 2G water pipe with a 2G thermostat housing. Since you're using the 2G head, and again assuming this is going in a 2G car, you can retain the cam angle sensor the 2G head is using. If that means swapping cams to allow that, then swap cams.

Literally nothing special is required to do this.

Um... okay? LOL

Basically what I'm getting at by even mentioning the cam sensor and potentially needing to swap a cam: if it is going in a 1G car, use the 1G cam sensor and swap the intake cam from the 1G head to allow that, if required. If it is going in a 2G car, use whatever sensor you're already using, whether it be 1G or 2G. You should have all the parts to swap from head to head in either case.

Easy.

You don't need to swap the cam for a 1g CAS, you can use the 2g cam with a a 1g CAS. The only reason you would have to switch cams would be if you were using a 2gb style CAS and needed the cam that's threaded inside. If it were going in a 2g you have to use a 1g CAS since the 1g 7 bolt doesn't have a place for the 2g crank angle sensor.

I have a 1g 7 bolt block with a 2g head in my 2g. Use the head components from the 2g, block components from a 1g and install it like a 6 bolt in a 2g. Pretty simple.

ok so then if im putting it in my 1g then i dont have to swap anything right? i can use the 2g cas without swapping the cams and all i need is the 2g intake correct.

You don't have to swap any cams but you have to use a 1g CAS and you use the 2g intake

I am trying to do exactly the same thing as 95tale who started this thread. However, while I have the intake, I dont have all the 2g throttle body parts, I have the complete 1g throttle assembly though. Is that going to be a problem if I install the 1g throttle body and vacuum on the 2g intake...assuming it fits.

It will be a little bit of a bottle neck but it will bolt up and seal. The 2G throttle body parts have a 52mm bore where the 1G parts have a 60mm bore.

Thank you, I just wanted to make sure all the 1g parts will bolt up and function on the 2g intake. I guess I can keep the 2g ignition, fuel rail and injectors on. I dont worry too much about the loss of power due to smaller intake. I have all the 1g parts except the head that got trashed. This project is a continuation of my previous endeavor:

I have run into this problem: I put the 2g head and intake on the 1g 7bolt block and the original 1g bracket that bolts to the block and supports the 2g intake does not fit. Is the solution getting the 2g bracket? If not, what is the common solution to support the 2g intake on top of the 1g block? Here is a pic of the 1g bracket for clarity:

Throwing the bracket in the trash

I run a 2g head on a 6 bolt there's no rocket science involved, use the 1g thermostat housing and a 2g intake. Since your a 7 bolt there's no need to drill out the bolt holes. The only other thing is turbo oil supply the head I have has a plug I took that out and ran my feed from it .

are you saying I don't need the bracket and I dont need to support the intake at all to prevent it from vibrating when it's hanging off the block not supported?
Very few people still have that bracket, much less use it. The 2G intake manifold is, overall, smaller and lighter than the 1G manifold anyway. You are safe without it.
