Everyone just says "There are some oil drain passages that need to be blocked off"

I've read there is 5, and to use freeze plugs. Am I over thinking this? Do I just have the head gasket and tell the machinist to insert plugs where the holes do not match?

Well could you tell me in detail or give a picture of what needs to be done so I can explain to my machinist?

All the links to details on this specific thing are dead. I wish the raycer97 dohc swap link still worked, is that archived somewhere?

4g64.com also does not exist anymore

or this http://www.extremeevolutions.com/4G64_buildup.htm

Any help appreciated!

You'll need to take the head gasket, line it up on the deck and mark the holes that don't line up. Measure them and purchase the right size freeze plugs. Best bet would be to find a shop to do it which is familiar with the job.

Theres only 2 machine shops in my town that I know of, one I would not touch, the other is very good but I doubt they have ever done anything custom like this

But yeah thats basically what I thought needed done too.

I'm compiling all this info though so any more details anyone has would be great

And I bought these from pepboys for like 10 bucks from their accessory isle. They fit pretty tight once the threads are crushed. I bang them in with the hammer about 1/8'' under the deck surface and then jb weld it flush with the block.

Thanks, I actually finally found that pic on google and the thread talking about using those plugs.

I do not like that idea of pounding threaded plugs into the block either, will use freeze plugs and sealant and wanted machinist to do it before the surface.

I think they should be able to handle it, I really dont want to drive 2 hours away twice to get the block done.

Another option is to tap the holes and use threaded plugs with sleeve retainer. They won't be coming out then. I know I have heard other people using this process before.

Yes, sounds much better to tap and insert those threaded plugs.

What sealant would you guys recommend (I know not an rtv type) I saw somewhere the best stuff was some shellac, it had a funny name.

I'm personally not doing it, machine shop will, the whole blocks getting honed and decked then the forged rod/pistons will be balanced and installed at the shop.

I'll be putting the head on, installing the engine and everything else ^_^

Just to post again and close this thread for all who need to search in future

Can use threaded steel plugs and tap holes or insert freeze plugs. What sealant to use? (I know not rtv)

1x1/2nch freeze plug
2x5/8s freeze plugs
2x11/16's freeze plugs

Finally found a pretty good page on the subject.
http://www.thegalantcenter.org/showthread.php?40987-7-bolt-4G64-w-2g-DSM-head-turbo-build-q-s

and another on the build, guy starts out saying how every other build is not very detailed and hazy then posts hardly any pics or documentation before he says cars running.

I will post the block I'll be building here when it comes back from machine shop after having this done

Wanted to post my pics of the oil block offs like I said I would.

In this pic you can see why they need to be blocked, the cylinder head does not cover them all the way. Look between intake ports on block.
