Don't gs models have drum in the rear? If it's drums it's a good idea to pop the drums off and check for a leaking wheel cylinder. You'll have to replace the shoes cause fluid will have ruined them. Get new hardware kit with all the springs. If they are calipers then it's probably seized.

The gs has 4 wheel disk, the rs has rear drums.

I was thinking the same thing about the e brake. And yes your car is fwd by the way

im pretty sure all these cars came with 4 disk brakes as standard i read it in a magazine some where

It means one of your calipers are locked in position, due to a blockage in a line, an old caliper piston, a piece of debris, whatever is causing the brake not to release. Just stick a Jack under the suspicious wheel and see if you can turn it by hand

Yep, like SFgSx said. Jack up the rear end and give it a Price is Right spin to see if it can make a few rotations or if it stops in half a turn to narrow down which one is problem side.

You might be able to feel the heat on the wheel with your hand (preferably during a cold night). When the rear guide pins seized on both sides on my 3000gt, the wheels were warm/hot to the touch and the fronts were cold.

E-brake is a possibility, works like old drum brakes if I remember correctly. Hides behind the rotor, that would explain why you just notice smoke but no other problems.
