Two things off the top and I'll get to the rest...One, where the hell is the ecu/ecm on this car and what should it look like??!!! I'm sitting here w the console and head unit out but all I can find is the airbag computer.

Second, I need to know how to get my oil filter off...yes I kno, dumb question but this thing was ON THERE!!! I tried every wrench advance had and nothing would fit, finally dude shows me the cap wrenches and I almost fed it to him! When I get it home and slap it on, it slips coz the pliers dented the top...yay!!! I couldn't even budge it by hand and I'm not a lil guy by any means...tried duct tape, went around twice then flipped it so the sticky was up to maybe help a lil w grip-nothing. Last resort was screw driver all the way thru the side...nope, that just made big gashes so I got pissed and cut it all off LOL. My next step, dad told me get a hack saw blade and cut around the threads, but not all the way then take hammer and punch n that should knock it loose. Any help? Thanks!

Ecu is right under the stereo pretty much. Disconnect the four connectors on it. Then unscrew the bolts holding it in. Mine was a pain in the butt to get out. Had to wiggle it for a little while.[DOUBLEPOST=1411864956][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh yea and concerning the oil filter. When you couldnt get it off, you should have just took your car to local oil change place. Dont say nothing about it and let them deal with all that stress for 30 bucks. Thats the easy way my friend.

I had this problem the first time. For me the OEM/Adjustable Oil Filter Wrench #25078 works. You still have to mess with it and get it on there so that it tightens as you turn the filter counterclockwise to take it off.

Anyway, on to the main topic here...this is my second spyder, first died due to faulty garage work during routine maintenance before modding - ya want it done right, it ya self! I got this one for $900 w no turbo (they blew it I think). Got it home n immediately started tearing it apart, taking everything off and out of way...bumper, plastics, etc., and the intercooler, intake and all piping. I figured since I've got to get a new turbo (getting a rebuilt hx35 for $100) and intercooler, I'd just get everything ready as much as possible. I'm doing all my maintenance while waiting on funds to accumulate, making check lists, reading and re reading different info to make sure I don't miss anything. As you read above, I'm fighting w the oil filter atm...who the hell doesn't oil the gasket!?! But I was thinking the other day about them blowing the turbo before and I remembered that they did a motor swap (either a 4g63 or a 4g64 for a 4g63t) and was wondering if they swapped the ecu/ecm also...maybe that could've caused it to blow if they didn't swap? Only problem is, I can't find the Damn thing to check it!

My goals with this car are atleast 300-325, 400 at the very very very max. I've got the hx35 that's been rebuilt recently, mbc and boost gauge atm...ive been trying to decide new or used on other parts like a front mount, o2 housing, manifold, modified valve covers (and y they modify them...havent been able to look yet). Like I said, ive already got everything written down--afpr, other gauges, safc or link (havent decided), injectors, wideband..already have a 255 wally I forgot to mention and 1g bov.[DOUBLEPOST=1411867172][/DOUBLEPOST]

No turbo...doesn't drive ATM...sorry I didn't include That but that's an awesome idea!!! Lol[DOUBLEPOST=1411867399][/DOUBLEPOST]

Um, the only thing still attached to the car is the threads and very bottom that the gasket is on...

I started to empty a can on it, but was worried about it getting inside the housing and what would happen if it did. It looks the same as on other spyder which is all stock so I guess they just didn't grease the gasket.[DOUBLEPOST=1411971981][/DOUBLEPOST]I've been reading all weekend (more browsing than in-depth, trying to get general info mostly) about link and flashable ecu's and I'm a lil burnt out at the moment. I think it's more from each discussion going back forth coz this person likes link, this one thinks ceddy is better and that's all fine coz everybody likes different things. If I were to get link, is dsm link the same as ecu link and which ecu I need for link? Mine is one of the black, flashable ecu's and link sounds like it would be something I would like better but I'm still only scratching the surface of the two. Thanks.

If the oil filter is still an issue there is another option besides PB Blaster. CRC makes a break away spray, usually for rust, that will literally break anything. I had a rotor that wouldn't come off on a buddy's truck for 4 hrs and used CRC's Freeze Off and it came off in about 2 minutes. Also used it on the header of an old Civic EX bolt that I broke 3 ratchet extensions and bent a breaker bar on. It broke the bolt in about 5 minutes of some spraying and tapping.

It is usually used for rust, but the oil gasket will be replaced anyway when you put a new filter on. Hope this helps bud, GL!

Be mindful and careful of the threaded part of the housing. I have seen people who have had issues pulling off filters using the old screwdriver puncture trick breaking off the threaded lead the filter screws onto!

EDIT: Which means you'd have to replace the whole housing.

It isn't you're right dgdsm, I always just get nervous about breaking something and having to pay for a new one, LOL.

My Spyder filter does seem to be pretty tight when I take it off as well.

Same as my car bud. I have a feeling I have a lot more problems with mine than yours, LOL!

Doing my crank pulley today hopefully. I'm probably doing the timing belt, water pump and seals. Hope you don't have to do that for awhile!

I had to do my battery not to long ago. Fuel filter as well. Just did NGK platinum spark plugs as well-I got those for about 8$, gotta love having a commercial account to buy car parts, haha.

Alternator and power steering pump will be my next project! My buddy is going to sell me his bored out big 16g turbo for $250 with a bunch of other stuff he doesn't use/need anymore. Love friends that have extra parts and don't need or want!

Update: first, it's not out of time! Woohoo!!!
Second, I finally found and ordered most of my new parts-Evo 3 big16g, new afpr and gauge, new oil filter housing and cooler coz I still couldn't and haven't got the old filter off, got the rewire kit for my 255, new (used) intake w k & filter, and last but not least I finally found a socketed eprom and got it chipped/programmed! Yay!! :D

Now on to one of my problems... got a new oil filter housing but can't seem to get the old one off... or the oil pan (just wanna see inside and clean it up). I think the last bolt for ofh is behind the bottom pulley. So do I have to take it off or is there an easier way?
