Needing to tune ASAP but have pretty much no money, What I have found is that I can successfully tune to an extent using an SAFC but that involves purchasing pocket logger or another alternative, Ive already ruled out DSM link (for now) until I have a better income, I'm really just trying to find what all I need but I'm not sure where to start the car has
-2g maf
-550cc injectors
-Evo3 big 16g
-Delta 272 cams
-Fuel pressure regulator
-3 inch catless exhaust
Please help me

Need wideband to monitor how rich or lean you are,
If you have an auto trans safc won't work for you.
Really no cheap way to tune. You got an eprom socketed maybe you can get a chip burned for you.
Safc
best and popular is dsmlink save for it is worth every money spent. My find someone selling for good price. I got my hands on dsmlink v2.5 for the price of a safc.

Ive actually found socketed ecu for a decent amount, any idea where I could get dsm link for cheapish? I if I could find a good deal on one I wouldnt hesitate to spend a little extra but everywhere I look wants like 4-500 bucks for it and the safc and logger just seems like the cheaper alternative at this point

Best is subjective. Most popular and most supported by the community by far is DSMLink. Is it the best? Subjective. My answer is no.

If and when you have a socketed EPROM ECU and a wideband, look into the Moates Ostrich 2.0(found on moates.net). It's $185 brand new, does everything 'Link does, and really isn't that bad. Do some research on it, see if it's something you'd like.

I looked into it and I like what I'm seeing but theres just not enough to make me dead set on it, could you sell me on it? how user friendly is it, what kind of software do I need for it, what all do I need for installation on the vehicle? I really just need to be pointed in the right direction[DOUBLEPOST=1410228560][/DOUBLEPOST]

Actually just found your post on dsmtalk from a few years ago on it. So all I need is a socketed ECU, computer and tuning software?

Here is your sale. Bought a Sim 2.3 stroker 1050 fic, never tuned a car ever. I adjusted the base map for the 1050's, started it let it warm up. Looked at the log made minor adjustments drove the car for 1,500 mi till I blew the torque converter out and muffed the trans. Ive never had the var @ the track. But I've had lots of friends who have say it was low 11.5's on my tune. Which I thought was good for being very conservative with no timing adjustments.

I've tried to tune ecm v3 on my buddies car and its just not for me. Jackal was super simple to set up and get going
HAK even remote viewed my.laptop to make sure everything was gtg.

I just sold my.brother the jackal/ostrich until the spring and I'm buying the same setup.
Jackal/ostrich FTW

Sir you and CrackedDSM just made a sale, what all will I need for it?

Back you CAS off a few degrees and run it as is, untill you can afford some real parts. I cannot reccomend jackal/sd to a complete beginner. Stay with your maf untill you have a good feel for whats going on. It's way easier to get the tune way out of shape with sd and burn up a motor.

Cheap tuning only means having to spend more money afterwards. Why not try to save up what you can until you reach your goal and get DSM Link?

You could get a h8 ecu and an open port its relatively inexpensive that's what I have but I haven't really used it yet because I just haven't been able to aford injectors and a pump yet butfrom what I have read and toying around its user friendly

Why won't a safc work if you have an auto transmission? I've never heard of that; and I run one on my auto.

If you like jackal, then you may wanna look into werewolf. Its a newer more in depth version, but jackal is either $20 to download or its free. Either way getting an eeprom prom ecu or get it socketed might be the better way in the long run. I think changing the fuel and spark maps is much better than "lying"to the ecu with an safc. But if your not using too big of an inj it obviously works pretty well, definately better than nothing.

If you're willing to spend $200
Get a Mirage 4g93 01-02/Lancer 02-06 4g94 manual ecu and a Tactrix 1.3 (cheaper than the 2.0)

An H8 ecu is easier to find but the OP 2.0 is more expensive

Flash a EVO rom and do the wiring

That tuning option will work in stock to heavilly modified cars

I would agree evo 8/3g ecu is the cheapest way. You can get a knock sensor ecu and plugs from your local u-pull-it. I got mine for 50 bucks. Evo scan is 25 and cable is easy to get used on the evo forums for cheap. Make the jumper harness. Done.

You would be wise to put your stock injectors back on and run stock boost until you can afford a wideband, then tuning method. You also never mentioned a larger fuel pump (rewired) along with your other fuel upgrades. While it can be tempting to just merely throw parts at your car, you must take care to ensure that you can maximize your upgrades in a safe manor. Maybe you could sell something like your cams to get the parts you really should have (wideband and tuning method).

Agreed, you would make more power, safely being able to accurately tune. Once you get a fuel solution(if you don't have one) you can max out your turbo and be plenty fast. Just make sure all the little maintaince things are up to date (timing belt& tensioner, lifters, etc) that and ways to monitor engine vitals. That's another often overlooked area, if you don't know your true boost pressure, oil temp, coolant temp, a/f ratio, it's dangerous. You often can't hear knock at high boost/high rpm over the engine, so a way to data log for knock would be crucial too.

Logging is great and a way to visually see whats going on safc 200 maybe even link can be found for around 300 if you look around I see people selling it a the time.

Just stay out of boost and save your $ to buy V3..Learn to tune yourself or get a reputable tuner to get you squared away..
