I'm searching everywhere for this info and I'm getting several different answers. I'm looking for a new transfer case for a 1997 automatic Tsi. Some say autos are the same for all 2gs, some say "will fit 95-99 gsx, 95-96 Tsi" WTF? I found a thread on DSM talk saying all were the same for autos. I placed a bid on eBay for one that said 95-99 gsx/ Tsi. I need a definite answer asap. Help!![DOUBLEPOST=1411249668][/DOUBLEPOST]Well I won an eBay bid for a 97 gsx tcase. Any suggestions before install?

You need to check the casting on the extension clutch housing. A 97 to 99 will be a W4A33. 95 to 96 is W4A32. These are NOT interchangeable. Also verify the tcase as best as possible. I can vouch for this I had a 33 and currently have a 32. The gear ratio doesn't match from the 95/96 to the 97/99.

Well the tcase I bought came off a 97 gsx, so I should be good. However, the PO just had the transmission replaced 600 mi ago by cottman so that scares me a little. Also, since this new tcase is used, I'm replacing the seals and trying to check for play. Any tips for checking the condition of a used tcase besides ripping it apart?
