I currently own a junkyard rebuilt grenade 4G63 from a wrecked talon my brother owned and am currently looking for ways to put this motor with the stock awd trans and the 20g turbo it has into a 87 conquest i stumbled upon. Need tips on what wiring harness to use, what other vehicles have compatible parts. I am on a limited budget and have the means to fabricate new engine mounts and trans mounts. Any suggestions are helpful

Thanks that link has an abundance of knowledge for the build I'm looking to complete

x2 on not going AWD. just don't think there's room for it. Bill Hincher also makes bellhousings to mate the 4G63 to toyota R154 and W58 5 speeds(early Supra trans). I currently run one of his bellhousings with a T56 behind the 4G63 in my '88 Ram50. There are pros and cons to all of them. The T56 is physically bigger than all the other transmissions; I had to cut the entire trans tunnel out of my truck, and widen it by 6". The gearing is also designed around a torquey V8 with 2.5x the displacement of the torque-less 4G63. maybe it'll be easier to post it like this:

T56-
Pros:
relatively easy to find
a large aftermarket of parts
strongest of the selection of manual transmissions
has a VSS, so it can be wired into your ECU to utilize launch RPM and antilag

Cons:
Will require one of Bill Hincher's bellousings
cost. If you can find a used one for under $1k, you're usually doing pretty good
size. will require trans tunnel mods in a lot of vehicles.
gearing. most of them have the high 2.66 first gear(compared to a DSM's 3.08 and 4.92 final drive). unless you can find one of the unicorn '93 only close ratio T56's(code M28 and M29) that have 3.08 and 3.29 first gears IIRC; but those also have lower torque ratings than the later units.

Toyota R154 and W58-

Pros:
much better gearing for the 4G63
cheaper than the T56
will fit into most cars with little issue
can be built to be reasonably strong(the R154 is the stronger of the two)
decently big aftermarket

Cons:
Will require one of Bill Hincher's bellousings
starting to get scarce. you'll pay more for an R154 than a W58(because it's stronger), and it's harder to hunt one down.
not as strong as the T56
costlier than going with an auto

Ram50/Mighty Max KM132 5 speed

Pros-
relatively easy to find, and usually pretty cheap
will bolt up to a 4G63 and can utilize all off the shelf parts(FWD flywheel modified to hold a bearing, FWD pressure plate, stock truck or 3G DSM clutch disk)
if you're building a truck, it will all bolt up stock

Cons-
it's weak. i went through my first one in a couple of weeks. threw in another that was living for a while, but wasn't going to last long. granted, both of these had over 100k on them. a fresh rebuilt unit might last a while, but they just don't seem to like the RPM.
it utilizes a cable-actuated clutch. combined with a FWD pressure plate(hydraulic), it makes for a VERY heavy pedal, and will eventually flex your firewall.
converting it to hydraulic clutch can be done, but is a lot of work. there are build threads on it though

GM TH350:

Pros-
by far the most popular choice.
will fit into most cars with little issues
cheap. TH350 cores can be found for next to nothing.
cheap to build. they have a gigantic aftermarket and the parts are as cheap as they come. huge selection of torque converters, valvebodies and what have you.
abundance. they are everywhere. junkyards, swapmeets, you name it.
the auto will create load and help spool a turbo at the line at the drag strip

Cons-
will require one of Bill Hincher's adapter plates
no overdrive
it's an auto. what the hell is the fun in that?

These are just the main choices, but you could get creative. you could use Bill's GM adapter plate to mount a powergline(2spd) trans for big power applications, or a 700R4 or 4L60/4L60E. the formers all use cables for kickdown/lock up, but the 4L60E's utilize a TCU(more money/hassle).

in my Ram50, i went the hard way with a T56. it utilizes an AWD flywheel, modified to hold a pilot bearing, and a 2600 pressure plate with a 6 puck disk that Hincher also provided. I have the VSS wired into my ECU, and was able to use my launch RPM at the track. i should also be able to use the antilag, although i haven't as of yet. i also should be able to use an aftermarket speedometer with this VSS, instead of having to run a stock gauge cluster or something of the like.

The downside is the gearing. that tall 1st gear is a bear at the track. with 4.10 gears out back, i had to slip the clutch from 5500rpm and could barely make a 2.0 60' time. my solution was to swap to 4.88 gears out back. this helps on the launch, but severely limits top end speed. with the 25.5" tall street tires i run, at 6500rpm in 4th, i'd only be pulling 106mph; and i was doing that with the 4.10's already. my solution here was to run a 28" tall ET Drag tire at the track, although most cars just don't have enough wheel well for that much tire(Trucks FTW).

in the end, it's pick your poison. there's pros and cons to each choice. good luck.

BTW, all of those assume you run the narrow block 4G63; if you were to run a wideblock 4G64, it opens up another can of worms for choices. the stock Starion 5 speed will bolt to a wideblock though. just something to consider.
