Changed my ball joint on the drivers side the other day to pass inspection and now I have a squeak coming from what sounds to be that wheel anytime I turn right at slow speeds.

I've heard of old ball joints squeaking when they need replaced but not AFTER they've been replaced. I literally changed it no more than 2 or 3 days ago.

Any idea?

It literally sounds like someone is skinning a small Japanese girl.

Kchaazz, that one exactly. Should have specified. That was my next guess is filling up the boot with grease. I haven't had a chance yet.

Imma give that a shot asap

Well as it turns out, after greasing everything, the screech is still there. It doesn't sound as severe, but it's still pretty awful.

Hmm. How far are you turning the wheel to the right when the noise comes up? If the noise wasnt there before, then perhaps something was left loose, or dangling and is making contact with the wheel itself or the tire when you turn?

Check the rest of the boots to see if any of them are torn and have leaked the grease out. Usually if the boot isn't torn than the joint is still good. Also check for play in the uppers and lowers.

I don't have to turn my wheel very far at all. I even lubed up everything else while I was down there greasing the one I had changed and saw nothing out of the ordinary.

If you pulled the control arm, did you grease the inner rubber bushings before install? If not this may be the issue.

Did the ball joint fit correctly (Tight and required a press for install)?

Robert

Are you referring to the bushings on one of the sides of the control arm where you have to insert a long extended bolt through? If you mean those, I did not grease those.

But yes, the ball joint did seem to fit tight and correctly.

You don't have to grease those bushings, they are a rubber tension bushing so there are no moving parts.

I was referring to the bushing just under the number "13" that is incapsulated by part number 10. Also the bushings labeled 12.

The rear one you would want to grease, the front one doesn't move so grease isn't necessary.

It turns out it wasn't any of those things.

I had to get the car inspected about a day or two ago and the inspector pointed out that the plate there is bent a little weird and asked if it squeaks when I turn. So I just got under and bent the plate back and boom, no squeak.
