I have a 92 Tsi AWD and I want to move onto a more modern feeling car. I did an Evo dashboard swap but The loss of functionality is annoying (no proper ventilation, have to reach into the dash to adjust temperature from hot to "cool" (NO AC), fuel gauge reads a bit off etc....). I also dislike the paint, I have a cracked windshield, and the interior is not the best. I'm ready for a change. I just recently got my car tuned at Boostin Performance for 462 hp so I am at a crossroads as to what to do with the car. My options are to sell the car as is, get another 1g shell and swap, or to get a 2g shell and swap. The first two can be easily done, I know, but I am also entertaining the third idea and need more information before I follow through. Searching around the site I haven't seen any threads of people who have done it but maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

My main concerns are the most obvious. Compatibility? I know ill need the 2g drive train, but will my 1gb trans fit using the 2gb mounts? Are there other clearance issues I need to worry about? Do I need to modify my transmission? What sort of wiring hurtles are there? Or am I just over thinking this and it's a piece of cake?

I'm sure there is more preliminary information I should be including, if you need me to clarify anything let me know. If I decide the swap is worthwhile I'll post a walk through.

No. You cannot put a 1g trans in a 2g car. There are no mount provisions on a 1g trans. This has been discussed many many many times.

Thanks for the link! Can a 1g trans be modified to fit? Just because I have a TRE stage 2 transmission with 4-spider center differential and I wouldn't want to have to sell it and look for another one. Could you switch out the bell housing from the 2g to the 1g to use their mounts?

There is nothing that can be done. If youre thinking bellbousings just swap well they dont. It would require complete tranny disassembly plus purchasing a 2g housing. Any cobbling together of some sort of mount is not advised.

Alright cool, like I said tho I'm not quite sure as to what my plans are yet with the car. I would like to swap it to a 2g, but swapping to a nice 1g shell or just selling is still an option. Just testing the waters.

So I think I am just going to get a new 1G chassis and go all out. I found a shell that's already caged, any ideas as to what I should have done to the shell before I do the swap? The guy recently painted the engine bay, but I want to go through and shave all the unused holes, then maybe do a wire tuck. Any other suggestions?
