I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

The wiring issue is a very big deal and extremely time consuming. Will most likely take a lot of trial and error. THEN after you get the wiring right you have to deal with troubleshooting other problems.
Its doable of course, but is it what YOU want to do? If so, then its worth as much as you're willing to pay for it or what the local market commands.

I'm pretty much willing to do the wiring. :) GSTs are at around $8,000 here[DOUBLEPOST=1409616404][/DOUBLEPOST]Problem is.. There are only 3 here in my city.
Ouch! Unless you are pretty savy with wiring and can't find a dsm anywhere else, I would wait or offer much less, probably the 600-ish like Wheat said.

If that's something that you must have, maybe talk to a local importer you can find one better here in the US and have them ship it RORO (roll on roll off). Just an option I know from japan to USA prices aren't too bad so maybe look into it before you pull the trigger. At the end of the day if it's work you know you can do it's your call.

What the hell is this thing worth? The shell is pretty bad off IMO, but mainly I'm trying to sell it as a complete AWD 5-speed swap donor car. 97-99 transmission and transfer case that are both in great shape. T-case has 80k miles or less verified good, and transmission has had a recent rebuild. Has an LSD rear w/ good axles all the way around. Driveshaft is good. Literally everything but the motor. Bad things about the shell is it has rusty strut towers, bit of surface rust on the rear subframe(nothing major, a sanding wheel and rustoleum would take care of it), drivers door sags when open. Missing headliner and hatch panel. Door handles are bad. Fully 2GB Eclipse swapped(2GB hoop spoiler is in the trunk). Cloth interior.

What is this pile of shit worth? (rims not included, will have bronze GST rims)

Salvage title non-turbo? 500-750 bucks, if that. Might be good for LeMons.

Yea I wouldn't pay more than 750 for a salvage title mon turbo.......if it had good tires. You can buy an awd turbo witha good title for that much if you look around. I paid 1000 for the last gsx I bought. 111,000 miles all stock. All it needed was a power steering pump. Perfect other than that.

My brother sold a 1st gen non turbo for $1,200 with 194,000KM and no damage to it and the car was all stock excluding an aftermarket stereo and it took him four months to sell. In your situation I feel like you would be lucky to see $750 for it.

Brutal! I hope to get some of the little things sorted before I sell it. Thanks for the thoughts!

Just don't put too much into it that will put you into negative return. Either way, even fixed, a salvage titled car is questionable integrity at best. Beyond that, you'll probably never break a grand unless you find somebody exceedingly desperate (and full of cash).

I've been looking for a nice 1g for a while and I finally came across one. The guy was originally asking 3800. He claims the car is pushing close to 500hp, has all maintenance, dsmlink v3 etc. I go to look at it and it doesn't start. It sounds like the starter is the issue, you can hear a faint click and it won't turn. The ECU was checked and fixed when dsmlink was installed so that's good. You can hear the pump kick on. We tried to push start it and pop the clutch twice but the car wouldn't start. Wouldn't the car still start while jumping it even if the starter is bad? He said I can take it now without a new starter for 3k. Question is, should I buy it? I've wanted one for a long time, awd turbo. It looks very clean except for the paint, the body is straight. I would hate to obviously pay 3k for a car and not have it run but I would hate to pass it up and have it only be the starter.

I would walk away. If the owner is willing to drop 800 for starter, there is more wrong. 500hp does not mean much when you cannot see/hear it run. Since your questioning it, you know it is not a wise move, but it is your money. Just be prepared to put much more in it. Sounds like your just being impatient. Patience will pay off if you just wait for the right deal to come along.

I'm weary about spending that much on any car that's not a necessity. The guy seems trustworthy and said that If he puts the starter in he will want his original asking price of 3800, which I wouldn't pay but maybe worth it to wait to see if that does fix the issue.
