Yea, it's Ken Block, but he conquers one of the toughest Formula D courses.

KEN BLOCK AWD DRIFTS IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY - Speedhunters

I think this thread has run it's course. There's plenty of evidence that you can drift an AWD car. It's not logical from a financial stand point because you need a lot of power compared to a RWD car, but AWD cars can link corners, etc.... Maybe someday someone will decide to take the hit and make some wild DSM videos. LOL

Mattmullin, Good job with the video and for going with a unique build. I'm sure it's not to everyone's taste aesthetically, but you definitely succeed in getting sideways and having fun! Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed, nice work man!

Stockfornow, I may be blind here, but I couldn't find a DSM in those links.

As far as these Audi's go I'll have to look into everything you guys are talking about so I can have an educated discussion about it. It's a never ending job relieving automotive ignorance!

If anything its the other way around. 60/40 for DSM's. I wanna know how he was able to do this, I know my 1g just likes to plow

I know this is old and im not trying to be a dick but according to mitsu it is a 50/50. taken from my original sales brochure/book.

Thank you Novec64, there have been some real lovers and haters for what i'm trying to do to the car. Every visit to the track, I always seem to get comments on its sound and power, at the drifting events its by far the quickest car on the track. most of the guys there are running stock sr's.. It's a long process building something then learning to rally it, but fun as hell! and the way I see it, the car should be sorted out by the time I blow out my knees jumping sleds and dirt bikes. Lol! I really need a tougher trans and a larger turbo. But one thing at a time. I have noticed many benifits of having the radiator in the trunk. My intake temps are super LOL I have been running 33-34psi of boost with healthy egts and the thing pulls like a train. But in that video I was jus running a 22psi spring in my wastegate, seemed like more than enough for wet conditions like that. I will be changing up the car over the winter too, now that i know the louvers on the side of the car work, I'll be prettying it up a bit as well as other odds and ends, the lighter the better!

Wow, im so late to the party... Mattmullin Great Job! It a good day to see a DSM out of it's comfort zone. Not many of us that take these cars sideways unless we are heading towards a wall. You really need to get a build thread going. Looking forward to updates.

Alright bringing back the dead, for a second time today! Im going to be starting a rwd application build here soon. I recently tore down my 90 awd and scrapped the shell as it was rusty and just junk.. Anywho, I've seen the videos and claims of welded center diffs and pulling the front axles and running in "rwd mode" and also heard that it probably wouldnt last very long in that kind of way.. Now my question is, how would the rear diff and axles hold up to with ~400 wheel horse in a ~2000lb vehicle? Id like to keep this an IRS set up but if I cant find any set ups cheap enough Ill just go with solid axle. Just curious how well people think it would hold up in this kind of scenario.

All depends on how wide and sticky your rear tires are, if its gona be a drift car. The stock rear axles are fine. U will want a welded or clutch type differential for the rear. The stock viscous lsd diff is a lil slow on locking up. Jus grab a evo8-9 rear diff and inner axle cups. That the cheapest and best way. Welding the diff works. But i would not recomend it if u are ever going to street drive the car. I have not had a rear axle failure ever. I run 245 wide tire for my awd drift car.[DOUBLEPOST=1411698424][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, if you are serious about drifting a dsm in rwd, you will want to mod the front steering knuckles for more angle. For awd drifting they arw fine. But for rwd you will want more angle.
