Ok. I thought you meant you ran that much quicker on top of the 13.4@100mph!

As for the GVR4 - I highly doubt you will gain an entire second (from your high 12 estimate to a high 11 estimate) from tuning and meth...unless you are talking about running straight meth! Methanol injection helps lower IAT when your intercooler isn't so great. Even on my Evo 9 I had, I only pickedup about 20whp from straight 91 octane to a dual nozzle meth setup spraying 50/50 meth/water.

However, I must say that I hope you do. Would love to see a VR4 get into the mix!

Any more of a break down on your time slip erik? We still are not sure where we are losing 30-50hp. Everything checks out okay on the car and the motor seems healthy. Not to excited to see your full weight car run the same mph as our 2600lb without driver car. Is that as high as your boost can go or can it go higher?

I'll find the timeslip at lunch and post it up. I can turn the boost up a little more I'm sure, but I'm on the stock headgasket and bolts, so I didn't really want to push it.[DOUBLEPOST=1407952661][/DOUBLEPOST]Here's the timeslip, I only got 4 runs last Wednesday, and those were the first 4 times I have ever launched the car on this clutch. My first run was 15.8 >.< The travel in the pedal for engaging the clutch is tiny, only a few inches, so I think once I get it down I can break into a high 13 with a better 60'

R/T ... .592
60' ... 2.178
330' ... 6.031
1/8 ... 9.127
MPH ... 80.44
1000' ... 11.786

E.T. ... 14.043
MPH ... 100.49

Your car has an easy mid 13 in it as is...possibly a bit more. Your 60' could easily be in the 1.6x range, and with a lot of practice in the 1.5x range. That alone would get you to the low 13s with everything else consistent!

I agree with Brandon, easy 13's with a proper 60 foot. Hardest part of a drag race to master is the launch. Car seems to be making good power though! Looks great too. Nice work Erik!

Steven, I know that elevation is a strange mistress, but something still seems off to me about what you have going on. Even with that elevation, it seems like a 12 should be attainable. Someday I'm going to have to take my car into the hills so I can understand the difference. Or maybe I'll just keep my head out of the clouds.

Anyone bringing something 14b to play with at the shootout?

Yeah, I think I can definitely get a 13 once I nail the launch. I think I need to slip the clutch a little bit more, I seem to be bouncing a bit too much. Some new suspension parts probably wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks! The car is super fun to drive, it's my daily and I love it. And Steven is the guy that helped me with my first tuning lesson on ECMink :hellyeah:

Compression test-125, 110, 120, 120. Leak down test 13%, 38%, 16%, 18%. Both 1-4. Cylinder two obviously has problems. The compression is actually decent for our elevation. My brand new motor in my rat rod after a few hours on the dyno with 9.2:1 compression is only 120-125 across the board and it makes 800hp easily.

Not sure if a reading and possible valve job/relap valves in is worth a half a second though. We will have to see what the owner wants to do. I highly doubt he can afford a built engine now or ever even with me doing all the work.

I’m going to the strip again tomorrow, and I’ve had a few people mention I could be using the e-brake to launch. I have a manual transmission, how does that work? I guess the basic idea is keep the e-brake up, start to slip out the clutch, then drop the e-brake and let the clutch out the rest of the way. Is that right? What does it do, help build boost?

Any tips are appreciated! I’m trying to get the best time out of my 14b before I upgrade.

And here's a pic to add some visual interest to this thread :D Car weighs 3060 with 1/4 tank of gas and includes the spare tire, 10" sub in a box and amp.

That's really low. I'd up that every pass until your 60' doesn't get any better. I think I've always started at 5500 and went from there. I launch my fwd at 6250.

We launch at 6000 Erik. That has netted a few 1.69 and 1.70 sixty foots.

We ended up having some motor problems. The rebuild did not go well as our connecting rods were not round and the new rod bearings were causing a huge drag on the rotating assembly.

I am in the process of trying to buy the car and become the sole owner and decision maker. If it happens I have some very radical ideas to get this thing into the 12's. It will not debut with a monster motor, just a fresh stocker but, the rest of it will be more race car oriented.

I agree, you definitely need to up the launch rpm. 5500 usually worked well for me on the street tires, lowering tire pressures helped gain some grip as well, 25psi to start.

Using the e-brake to pre-load the drivetrain effectively takes up any drivetrain slack and can help prevent broken parts, it also puts more load on the engine which can as you stated help build more boost to leave harder. I as of yet have never pre-loaded, I do plan on trying a staging brake in the near future.

Hope you're having fun out there at the strip tonight! Good luck.

got my 13.9! :D I had 5 runs. First a 14.0, then a 14.2, 14.2... My launches were going great at 5500 RPM, but I realized I was shifting into 2nd gear like I was driving to church on Sunday. I focused on shifting that gear faster and went back to a 14.0. One more pass focusing on shifting faster and I got my 13.939 :D I called it a night since nothing was broke yet. Now it's time for a dyno run to get a HP and Torque reading before I figure out what turbo I want to upgrade to.

What's the altitude where you race and what is setup?

Nevermind...found the altitude. What was your 60' time?

Density altitude was a little over 8200' that night. So pretty high. I was chatting with some racers that were visiting from Minnesota, and they said they were running a full second slower than they normally do. My 60' was 1.905 :D

Great job reaching your goal! But don't upgrade now, lots more left in it :D

Thanks! Still time to upgrade though, I'm pretty sure I'm maxing this little 14b out up here at altitude. I think I could easily get a low 13 at sea level. Next upgrade is going to be my cyclone IM and a small 16g, I have had both sitting in my garage for quite a while. I'm definitely not going with a really big turbo setup, I'm too addicted to how fun this little turbo is on the street. Super fast spool and great power curve.

Heading to the track on Wednesday with this car. Picked this up from Dave W. (pneumo). 325k+ miles on it and running strong. Mild setup...basically a 14b with full exhaust, suspension, slicks, fuel pump and tuned at about 17psi on 91 octane. Also has a few upgrades to the transmission and clutch. Weight reduction is just rear seat along with trunk area stuff removed. Hoping she'll dip into the 12s!!
