Another question for wiring and minor upgrades... Along with the keyless I've been tinkering with, I also picked up new side view mirrors that have both turn signals behind the mirror, and parking lights on the front side. So I have had others suggest that I can just wire the hot and ground directly to the +/- of the turn signal and such... I also know that it seems everything in these cars are negative trigger so I can't just use them as a direct power source, and I can't wire +/- to both the turn signal and the parking because the lights in the side views use a common ground. I'm guessing I would have to use a relay to turn the negative trigger into positive to power these, so I was hoping for a little input from anyone that might have done something similar, I've have yet to wire up a relay myself...

I think that you would be just fine wiring everything as is. Are they LEDs inside the mirror? You could always tap into the front turn/parking light inside the headlight and find out. Basically it should have a ground and 2 signal wires (which the mirror has I believe). I would try to hook it up that way and see how it does. If you have any issues, report back and we could go from there.(unless if anyone else has any suggestions)

Well, that's the issue... As I understand it most of the lights and the locks and everything are negative trigger in this car... So the ground IS the trigger... Which is a problem when the side view has a common ground I can't trigger the lights individually using just the ground...

If you feel that you must through the trouble of relays, You would need 2 per side and wire it as in this schematic:

I would still pull out a multimeter and test to be sure before you went through the hassle of making a wiring harness for each side.

Edit: Looking at the wiring schematic for the car, the turn signals have a common ground w/2 signal inputs(as already stated). Still pull out a meter and verify if you would like.

I'm really not trying to be argumentative or anything, I don't feel I must "go through the trouble" of using a relay, I'm just going on my understanding as I've seen described elsewhere, but it's entirely possible that I'm just not understanding how it works completely. As I've read, these cars use a negative trigger for many things such as these lights (and locks, pin switches, etc.)... And as I've understood from that reading that basically means that the lights and such have a constant (non-switched) hot wired to them, and when you activate the light using a negative trigger you are basically completing the ground side of the circuit. I want to try to tap into the trigger wires at/near the steering column at those trigger wires, which would be basically completing the negative side of either light. If that's the case, I would think that I wouldn't be about to power the lights directly from the triggers, but I would have to ground the mirror with the common, and then use the relays to turn the negative triggers into positive voltage to light them.

As I said, it's entirely possible I'm just not understanding it right and if that's the case by all means correct me... I am new to these cars and doing any sort of electrical outside of straight repairs or stereo installs so I'm just trying to learn how to do everything properly.

See, I would go after the factory relays and not the "trigger wires". By going after the relays, everything is already switched. It would be 10xs easier to just get the signals and ground from the turn signal from the headlight and run the wires into the cabin, into the door, and to the mirrors. It would be less wires that you would have to deal with and less of a headache. In order to get the signals from under the column just sounds like a cluster duck. You would have to tap into the wires near the dimmer for the parking lights and then try and tap near the flasher unit that is already funky anyway.

Maybe someone else will chime in and help contribute either way. I'm not here to be argumentative either, I'm just here to try and help you get the mirrors hooked up and working properly.
