i'm a total Newbie and I Just Got a 97 Eclipse Rs off a Friend of a Friend with 138,000 for $750 they were the Original Owner. I was wondering whats the typical Life span of these 420a Engines and what i should be looking out for on upkeep? I want to keep it all Stock and hopefully have it last me a good few years. i just did the Timing belt and water pump. i'm just trying to get a feel of what else i should do...

good deal man! not sure on upkeep as I only had a 420a for a short period of time back in 08 but I hope you dont have any issues.

I used to rock a 420a for about 3 years and sadly she was totaled. Had 236xxx on original motor and I beat her everyday. Just keep up maintenance and the sky is the limit. Maybe a new clutch if a manual? Fresh fluids. Pick up a manual on the car and follow the recommended service limits and she should be good. Cold air intakes are nice good set of ngk plugs and wires wouldn't hurt

The Original Owners Manual was still in the Glove Box :) its a Automatic just did all the fluids and installed a new Fuel Filter. Would a Cold Air Intake mess up anything when i get it smogged? I live in California.
