Hey everyone im planning on buying a 97" speed 2g.. It has 180k miles everything works.. Hes willing to let it go for 2300 is it a good deal? My main concern is mpg as this will be a daily driver. I also wanted to know what are common issues il run into thanks everyone.

Waaaay too high. Agreed about the 1 to 1300 mark. CLoser to a grand is reasonable. Unless he has stacks of paperwork and a million new parts. THEN it could be worth more. I sold my gs with 225k on it for 1300. It was a beauty though cosmetically and mechanically zero problems. I thought i got a great price for it, if it were me i would have offered 900 or so LOL.

you can't really say it's to much. Some areas it's harder to find these cars. In mass where im from a car with that many miles would probably go for 1200, down here in Mississippi where I am now it would go for 3000.

i would say in general the price is high, is the car mechanically and cosmetically sound? Also has the maintenance been routine and can the seller provide a list of all replacement parts? If so and all is tip top then really its up to what you feel comfortable paying for it, personally after owning several DSM's i won't pay more than 1g for anything stock, a bit more for a 1g tsi awd or gsx with a solid body

Im in phx az this other guy tried to sell me his gs and it needed a bunch of work in talking missing front bumper no power steering missing airbag. No paint for 1800. Im guessing it the area im in?

That's a pretty high price for the model and mileage, I'd look around for either a gsx or TSI AWD, much more fun to drive and still a good DD!

regardless the price is still way too high, in other areas the car is still widely available, you may have to travel to find them but it is still worth it.

To the OP if the car has things done to it please tell us otherwise the price is way too high and you can find a far better deal, try looking on here as well.

I love some of the people who ask questions on this forum, such as is this a good deal, than when told that it isn't they disregard that info. Why ask in the first place if you aren't willing to listen.

I found some to but they are all auto and i want stick
Can u send me the links then? Im mainly looking for a gs for the mpg this will be my daily beater

So i got the guy to let it go for 2k.. Now my question is i cant decide what car to keep i have a 98 prelude and idk what car to keep.. I know this is a dsm forun buy help me out here guys im stuck.. My main concern is look, reliability and mpg...[DOUBLEPOST=1409708139][/DOUBLEPOST]

The prelude is nice but il be on the freeway at 4k rpm they have short gears and i only get about 28mpg on it versus the eclipse someone told me id be in the 35-38 range.. Iv always liked eclipses i wamted to own one before making my decision

I don't see 35-38 even on a freshly tuned up engine happening. I would seriously stick with the honda for a daily driver. If it were me i would pick the honda every time for a daily driver.

So I come from a Honda background and as far as daily driver/ reliability/ mpg goes Honda all the way, plus the last gen preludes with the H22 can be bad ass cars. DSM world and all cars associated are more of the love of the ride. not to many of set out to find an eclipse just as a DD. Its more like you want a DD but also a weekend warrior. The Eclipse even with the 420a still will require more maintenance than the Honda. you need to ask yourself what are the major priorities with the ride, mpg and reliability or a DD that you can upgrade and rip roads up with.

If the engine is healthy and you do a LOT of highway travel the eclipse wll be just fine. I travel 35-40k miles a year and when i first started i owned a 98 gs. I would most def get 33 to 35mpg. MT of course and never got on it, its a very weak engine, no sense in beating on it. Plus, of all my stock cars ive owned, i baby them. The dsm is for abusing LOL.
The honda is, well, a honda. They are extremely well built. It all depends on the mileage of the 2 and the condition.

Yea.... i'd be leaning towards the honda as the DD as well.

Well i forgot to mention both cars are about the same in miles on the chasis they both have about 180k and both have rebuilt/swapped motor around 110k each.. I just love the looks and potential of the 2g but honda is more reliable
