Really I'm scared of doing it. I have a...well its a Mitsubishi round mass airflow sensor. Not sure if its a 2g or 3g. It has 7 pins and I really want to put it in with a maf translator, but scared or problems or repercussions. Will it give me bad gas mileage, will it idle bad. And if so can I fix those problems. That's it really.

Here's some pics

That is an evo maf, a quick google search of that part number would of told you that. Also a maf translator isn't used to put a different mitsubishi maf on your car, it is specifically to use a gm maf.

That's what I thought about the maf..... Any other ideas other than a gm airflow?[DOUBLEPOST=1409713207][/DOUBLEPOST]And if I knew which one was the part number I'd search it. I also have a weird oval one

More horsepower. I'm aiming at 300 and sooner or later I'll need a more effient mas. Plus if I upgrade it now I'll know what pipe sizes will look best and work well.

You can always just go with the tried and proven 2g maf. You will need a way to tune for it though.

Plus I'd rather not hit the max efficiency of the stock airflow down the road. Plus I'm planing on DSM link in the future and would rather not tune the slack of the 1g mas. Sorry if I seem picky or stubborn, but I have a engineers mind and it just looks like trash put together. It is and was fine for its time period. But not now. Lol[DOUBLEPOST=1409714970][/DOUBLEPOST]
Just curious since you are newish here, have you read the upgrade path? It's helpful if you haven't.

And yes. I've gone through 6. And I am at the mas on some, and others would be tuning.[DOUBLEPOST=1409715480][/DOUBLEPOST]

Is that the model 609 oval maf? If those three numbers are even the model.

I'll need to tune that. So couldn't I get the maf translator gen two with wideband self adjustments?[DOUBLEPOST=1409716819][/DOUBLEPOST]Sorry. The tuning part was a question.

You could go with the gm maf and maf translator, but it is not very tunable, and you don't have the option to adjust timing. If i were you i would stay on the 1g maf for now than save up for dsmlink, of just buy an older version of link for a few hundred.

The worst thing that'll happen with your stock maf is fuel cut, which is meant to happen as a safety mechanism. So if it DOES happen, at least you know you reached the upper limit of the stock maf.

In the meantime, take everyone else's advice and save up for what you need for your goal, which honeslty, is almost nothing more than like a couple hundred bucks in used stuff from members on here. To me, 300hp is as simple as like... exhaust and a boost controller...

I have all three inch exhaust. Down, cat, cat back. Its THERMAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT. I like it. I also have a tubular manifold....but all right....I guess I'm just being finicky because people post about how inefficient the 1g airflow is.....and I just want my car to be its best. Lol

You can always go the 2g maf route plus some 550cc injectors. Pretty common combo and tuning is "not necessary" immediately. But... if you are getting link down the road, I would just wait and save for that. Everything will be a lot easier upgrade wise after you get it.
