I was wondering the other day what would be the limits/weak points of my build. The car is in my profile, but here's a bit more specific info on the engine itself:

Revised 7 bolt 2.4l bottom end (From a 2000 or so Galant)
ARP main studs, dowel kit, IJ 3 piece crank scraper
7 bolt 1g Head with Crower springs and retainers, 3g lifters, stock valves.
Wiseco pistons, Eagle H beam rods
Clevite street bearings

Now this is a full interior street build, so everything I do is keeping with driveability in mind. My main question is what I would want to keep in mind not to break something, or if there's something I should look at replacing at a certain power level. I was looking to upgrade to an FP Green next year and aim for around 500hp. I had a friend with a 2.4 wideblock crack a cylinder at 520. Another concern of mine is since my crank is from an NA car. I dont know if they're significantly weaker, and if so, what do I replace it with? I know with 6 bolt 2.4s the truck cranks are forged, so thats usually what people go with. But for my engine, i'm unsure.

+1 Most people say Wisecos are just fine but there was a thread where quite a few people said they had problems with the pins( or something to that effect). This only applies to standards. The HD line I have heard nothing bad about.

How much boost you plan to run? What kind of Wiseco pistons?
I havent really decided in the sense that I have a number. Whatever pump gas will do with an FP green. Theyre standard Wiseco pistons
Head studs would be a really good idea. L19 or the like.
I have standard ARP studs right now, as well as ARP main studs and the dowel kit.

Do you plan on using adjustable cam gears, and a degree wheel to line up the timing and get the cams dialed in right? thats what i'd be concerned with... well that and the type of timing belt components you plan to run, of course tuning will play a part always got to factor that in as far as how much power/reliability to expect from the build.

I believe the Wisecos would be your limiting factor but for what you want to do I think it would be fine. Your real limiting factor is probably the injectors keeping you from making that power.

I am running OEM 94 Galant GS cam gears right now which are correct for a DOHC 2.4l with stock cams. I am using stock 2g MT cams right now, I planned on getting FP3s and adjustible gears and degreeing them properly when I upgrade. I'm using a standard 4g64 DOHC Gates belt right now, and at a later date I may look into a Kevlar version of the belt if I can. I have to modify the idler setup in some way to run a normal 4g63 timing belt.

Yeah thats what I was thinking as well. I didnt think it was worth going to the HD since i'm not trying to build a race car. I plan on upgrading to ID 1300's later as well. I'm on FIC 650's right now since I couldnt find my 780s anywhere.

I would say the fp green is gonna hold you back, i would go with a hta red. I think it will make your 500 hp goal a lot easier to obtain. My hta red made over 400 on pump under 30 psi. I would also agree with others about the studs, im putting in L19's as we speak for a 110 30psi+ tune.

The tuner is the limit. People blow up built engines just as fast as stock motors if they can't tune it.

The only reason I was hesitant to do that was that I dont want to restall my converter. If i go high on the stall it's gonna drive like a pig around town. If my turbo is too big, it wont build boost at the line. I considered an EFR for a similar reason but the manifold/o2 housing setup for that is going to be expensive.[DOUBLEPOST=1409534972][/DOUBLEPOST]

I agree completely, thats why I make sure to have my tune fine tuned/checked by a pro.

If you choose efr, which by the way has that new gammtia-ti turbine wheel that's half the weight, you should have a custom forward facing manifold made. That with a half width radiator and custom down pipe might be pricy but you'll have a sic set up with fast spool and top end. If I had the money that's what I would do.

That would be sick for sure. As long as the radiator was thick enough and got enough airflow, but as puny as the stock is thickness wise i dont see that being a problem. There are 600+hp street driven hondas on half size radiators. There are some great upgrades out there cooling wise.

True, that and buschur has a build thread on here about his sons 1g and he has a half width with forward facing set up. Same thing he did on his white evo 8 and that thing is running low 9 high 8's last time I saw. And the 1g is in the 9's too I believe, it's an auto with not that big of a turbo. It seems to make the most difference at the strip or at high speed. You get that ram air effect plus nice cold air for the turbo even with a filter, which I seen him use on the street. I'm seriously considering doing this with a v band style.
