well... I haven't posted in this thread in a while and I thought id give a small update on the car. car is running great, so great it decided to rip 4th gear out of the tired, old stock transmission. I guess its time for a rebuild..

Nice build! Curious to know what your findings and or repairs you had to do when the knock occured. Any dyno time yet?

we have diagnosed and diagnosed to try to find out why the knock sensor was going crazy with no luck at all.. we think its a wiring issue. there is no physical knock in the engine. no dyno time as of yet because of the little issues that has been going on. the stock trans finally gave out and it has no 4th gear, so im honestly thinking about going to a built auto.

do you have any plans to with that battery? I relocated mine to the trunk my set up is very close to yours except I am going to go with a FP Green. the reason i ask is because you can make more power with a different intake manifold. I wonder if your knock is "phantom". If your PCV system isn't working properly this could make you have some knock. It doesnt look like your catch can is routed corretly and your bov isn't recirculated. Did you ever set that speed density up you were talking about? I don't see a GM MAF or a map sensor I was just curious. and if it is set up why do you have a maf preturbo. all in all looks pretty good man check my build out if you get a chance I could use some input as well. keep up the good work.
my 1g build

edit: I just read your mod list and it says you have speed density so that answers that question. I guess I am curious why you didn't remove that MAF from the intake.

I was told it was a good idea to run the maf while breaking the engine in. once I get the final tune done it will be on sd. the catch can that's currently in there isn't permanent either, just temporary until I get a nice one welded up with an fittings and all that good stuff LOL. other issues have been getting in the way of me finishing the car up.

sort of an update to the people that follow: transmission has been fixed just need to put it in. its suppoed to be a shep stage 2 going in. while it was down I decided to put a jmfab race smim on along with doing all of my fuel lines. I have some pics on my dsm profile if you want to check that out.

Nice build. Just curious, are the primered areas in front of the rear wheel wells from rust repair? I think I've seen pics of this car on evo 8 enkies and it looked amazing!

yea it had rust repair before I bought it. im either going to paint the primer spots or plastidip the whole car. im honestly burnt out on the evo8s after going to shootout this year. seemed like every other car had them so im looking for something different.

updating an extremely old post. I feel like I should make a new one here soon for the new car. 91 is now gone. nothing but issues with the car before I found the big rust hole under the car big enough to put my fist through. engine failed spinning a main bearing. fixed that to have the trans go out. so went auto and when I was pulling the trans I noticed the rust that imo was a safety concern for me. so I made a deal with a buddy for a 92 tsi awd shell he had sitting. was originally a 5spd. I took everything I had from the 91 and put it in the 92 shell. I swapped all the auto stuff in. bought the 92 in February 2016 and had it running and driving in october. made some changes that needed addressed over the winter and some of spring. got it tuned on 26psi on the holset. went to shootout 2017 for its maiden run at the track. best pass it made on its first time out since the build was 10.89 @125.6mph with a 1.56 60' on nitto 555r drag radials. im going to get a new thread started for the 92 when I get some time and start making updates with it.
