Guys i need your help. Ill be buying a set of rims and tires. They are p45 rota's. 17 x 7.5 +40 offset.. Will these rims fit my 1g eclipse? Do i have to do anything to make them fit. I have stock suspensions. The tires are 225/45/17..

I can't speak to the exact specific situation but I can tell you that tirerack would say no. For a 17x7.5 and a 215/45/17 tire, maximum offset is +38. So a wider tire would make me think the offset is too high. Again, I could be wrong but if there is no way for you to "try before you buy" so to speak, I'm not sure I would risk it.

They will fit fine, many of us run evo rims 17x8 38mm offset with no problems.

Thanks for speaking up. I know they would (and do) fit fine on my 2g but I wasn't sure if clearances were tighter on the 1g's.

As far as how wide you can go it really depends on the offset. For instance evo 8 enkeis are 17x8 +38 offset and they fit fine, yet fd rx7 wheels are 16x8 +50 offset and there is no way they fit without spacers (awd at least). For the 17x8 +45 offset rotas, they will most likely clear but be a very tight fit. You may need some really thin spacers.
