I am currently in the process of replacing the exterior roof skin/panel on my 1g. The front lip was rusted out, leaving the windshield without anything to bond to.

So right now I have the windshield out, the interior headliner removed, and the hatch will be removed later today.

My question is, does anybody have any idea the number of spot welds there are on each side? Front, rear, left, right? I can see mostly all of the spot welds on the front and rear (or so I think) but the left and right sides are barely visible.

I can see a few welds between where the seatbelt track and the gap between the roof, but I'm wondering if there are any spot welds that ARE NOT VISIBLE?

I posted a thread not too long ago trying to get help with removing the skin and installing a new one. Didnt get very much help and still havent done it. Hopefully someone does give some input because Id like to do thid aswell without going in completely blind

I have not "replaced" mine, but I did remove one. The spot welds on the sides are hiding under the sealer, you'll have to scrape that sealer off and/or make note of each spot weld from the bottom side. The place where you might have issues is the rear lower corners as they are not spot welded, it's similar to a braze and will need to be ground off. Take your time and don't pry too hard, you'll notice very quickly if you missed a spot weld and it would be very easy to damage the skin.

Today I got the hatch out, and after cleaning the gutters and the entire roof surrounding, I can now see all of the spot welds clearly. I'm hoping to have the roof off within the next few days.

I'm also interested to hear/see details on this.
