Hello! I have been lucky enough to have a come upon a 1995 GS-t Eclipse, I have never owned a Mitsu before or anything turbo for that matter!! A friends neighbor had the car, at some point swapped over another engine into it (the junkyard writing on it says a 1996 GSX engine, I THINK) apparently they did the whole swap got a 30 day moving permit on the car and one day it just stopped working, not wanting to work on it anymore and thinking it was worth nothing they just gave it to us! WIN!

So a year after receiving the car and just letting it sit (Didn't have the title, Long story, Now we do!) we looked into the problem and the car would turn over but produce no spark, checked every option and noticed A LOT of things aren't bolted down or plugged in. I notice that the Oil Position Sensor wasn't plugged in, get that taken care of and BAM car starts right up, runs great and I really enjoy driving it. (The one block drive I did! Ha)

So I have a few questions, (I looked through the searches and archives and hit quite a few dead links and what I found seemed a little dated.) First things: with a car that has newly swapped motor that may have things that aren't connected what should I ensure is set up or things they may have easily missed that I can repair? What are the major things I should do maintenance on and check before I start driving the car daily? I have only been able too find two "Free Mods" to start with are there more? The car came with a Aftermarket BOV and it seems to be dumping into the "Atmosphere" and I keep getting linked to the same post on what that means, I feel like a dummy but I really don't understand fully, Do I just need to route the open spot back into the intake?

Finally, is it worth it? I am in college making college student wages and this has been a bit of a godsend because my other car just broke down (Clutch and Water Pump) that I didn't want to fix anyways because it was boring as hell to drive, This car RUNS:thumb: but the car obviously needs work which is okay with me I have wanted a project and don't mind throwing my money into something fast and fun BUT I have been reading that the FWD cars are basically as bad as a non-turbo car in terms of performance, is it really that drastic? I am looking for a DD that I really want to get to the MID 13's someday, Should I just sell the thing and make my 100% profit and try and find a AWD?

Thanks for reading! Just a guy that is new to DSM's looking for a good place to start tinkering with it at.

(I promise I tried to use the search function the best I could! Just seemed to loop me around.)

I dont know where you read that GST's were as slow as a non turbo car but that's completely false. I had a GST as my daily driver for 3 years and loved every minute it. All I had to replace was the alternator and a couple gaskets aside from the typical oil changes and she ran rock solid the whole time. I would say fix it up right so that you're confident in driving it and keep it as a DD. Maintenance you should consider doing is obviously changing out the fluids since it's been sitting for a while, check the condition of the timing belt to see if it's cracked or worn at all, check to make sure the wiring isn't spliced wrong or broken cause that will cause headaches, things like that.
As far as rerouting your BOV back into the intake, a picture might help us tell you what needs to happen here, but if you still have the stock intake then you can just find a hose and connect it from the outlet of the BOV to the intake but like I said I would take a picture of your engine bay so we can tell you what to do. Having it vented to atmosphere could cause running issues. But it looks like you've been doing your research which will help you a lot when it comes to working on your car :thumb:

GSTs are great. Nothing beats the joy of an AWD for me /personally/ but that's just me. I really enjoyed driving my FWD TSI. Don't sell it, you got the car for free...something that doesn't happen often. Research, research, research, learn all that you can, get it running like a top, and do some tasteful performance upgrades for it. Turbo DSM, is a turbo DSM. AWD or not.

For that matter in the future when you're not in college and you get a little more money and skill, you can AWD swap it pretty straight-forwardly.

Keep it, save it, learn it, love it!! Then when you are done with school and start making some real money, you can decide on a fwd to awd conversion, or do the sell and buy thing. Deals like this are rare so it's a sign that you were meant to love dsm's. :hellyeah:

Keep it as stock as possible if you're looking for reliability. Cant beat a free car and as said above, a gst is a swap away from being a gsx.
Even so, fwds can be very very fast with the right suspension, an automatic tranny, and some slicks up front.
I got tired of fwd MT after a certain power level. It just wasnt cutting it. Great for roll-ons, cant beat a fwd for that but IMO one day, if you modify it, you WILL go awd.

Anyway, congrats and now its time to spend several months reading LOL

Here are some photos on what I am dealing with! Thanks for the replies!

Nice find bro, def worth fixing up and modding! As for the bov unless there's a 1-2" port on the bov, you won't have anything to hook a hose up to and back to the intake. Its hard to see from the pics, but looks like a old blitz bov. You way want to find a bov you can recirculate properly, you will have way less drivability issues if you do. Or if you can find a way to recirc the blitz I would right away.

Yeah, that was my exact worry I was looking at the BOV and there doesnt seem a way I can recirculate it, The opening is kinda just a opening and not anywhere to fit a hose over or anything

Okay, I will see if they have a adapter or something. I am looking to have something to do tonight and maybe gain some power while I'm tinkering with the car. The first thing I was looking to do was do the BCS restrictor removal mod, Is it worth it? Are there any negative effects? The other mod I was looking to do was on the "Upgrade path" on a website that won't load right now for some reason, it basically had something to do with the waste gate? Was a simple free mod that added up 4 psi. Anyone know what I am talking about?

The bcs mod is fine to do you may gain 1-2psi of boost, that's about it. Would be better to keep the bcs plugged in and remove the vac lines and throw In a mbc, not that you need to crank the boost up yet. I'm sure we all have done this free mod LOL. It basically takes the stock boost of 12-14psi and brings it up to 14-15.

So I got it out, but I'm confused am I supposed to just stick a screw in there? It seems like it is hard plastic that isn't going to let anything out? So confused!

Sorry, If I seem like a dummy but do I just yank the screw back out? or? :idontknow:

EDIT: I looked up a YouTube video like I should have in the first place, Got It!! So now that is done, and I still have the waste gate area exposed with the tank out and all is there anything I should do before I out it all back together?

Make sure everything is tight. Make sure the waste gate arm moves freely. Not really much there to do anything to, you can check the turbo for shaft play just to see how it feels now. Just grab the comp wheel bolt with 2 finger tips and wiggle it up and down and side to side. Should be very slight play to non, if its crazy feeling than that's not good my friend and its prob time for a rebuild.

Check, Check Check. Tomorrow I am going to Pick N' Pull (Our Local Junkyard) and going to be looking for a bumper and what ever else I should look for? Is there anything from the earlier years I could snag of one of the cars there? Anything in particular I should look for? I hear the 1G head is better but I'm not really looking to jump in that far yet.

1g head had bigger ports, 2g head has different design closer to the evo heads. Unless your going hard core high boost big hp high revving monster, the 1g head isn't needed. If you find a 2gb bumper you need 2gb headlights to have it look right and no gaps. Other than that not much bro if you see a 1g grab the bov and flange and turbo those are all great upgrades for you.

Looks like a decent car. From the pics, I would recommend getting a battery tie down and I also see the middle timing belt cover is missing. You really don't want anything getting into your timing system, or you could skip timing and bend valves. If the bottom cover is gone too, also get that.

Basically starting off at the same page as you! Just picked up a stock gs-t, paid near to nothing for it. The greddy bov on mine was also blowing off to the atmosphere, and i was like naw uhh, connect. Im fixing leaks, then going to start maintenance on it.

Thanks for the help everyone! There wasn't a single turbo DSM there, I was only able to pick up some interior parts that were missing, tried to get some new tail lights because my center piece is that ugly "Attezela" or whatever look and I hate it but they were wanting an outrageous price for the tail lights, Maybe later.

A friend is giving me a brand new AutoMeter Cobalt boost gauge so I will be picking that up an installing it tomorrow, Where should I mount it?

Hey guys! I have a free day tommorow, No cash but a free done none the less. I know you guys cant see the car so it is hard to say but any ideas on what I can do on it tomorrow? Things to check? Mods?

My advice if it was free sell it and go GSX. I had a gst and yes it had its fun days but all and all I never could keep up with a GSX with the approx same mods. 1 the transmission is geared better and 2 the traction of an GSX is retarded. I had to spend shit tons of money just to get my GST to hook up good. But yes it can get to 13 but a gsx can do 13's in half the money.

Stop with the word mod please not trying to be a jurk but dont do anything mpre until you put a new oem timing belt or better like a gates blue greddy hks also do same for balance shaft belt change the timing tensioner both the pully and the hydrolic tensioner do the waterpump while you are there change the oil and coolant too at this time do all this and you will have a strong running car if it was all good before hand and if i were you before doing anything at all rent a compression tester or buy one you honna want one in the dsm world check the engine see what its doing same for a leakdown test because if it fails either no sense in moving forward with mods because your engine needs a rebuild and that is why these cars have a bad name kids get them mod them zero up keep and boom not worth blowing up a free car you could put a few hundred into and not have anything to worry about while you mod it
